Frank Lampard is better than Zidane (4 Viewers)

Something about Lampard that irks me though...he' so typically English, all strength and stamina without skill or finesse. I'm not asking that he does a Ronaldinho every week, but he just doesn't come across as a cultured and refined player at all. You don't have to be able to dribble an entire defence to have that; see Pirlo and Rosicky.

A fine player yes, but just doesn't suit my tastes.

Where are all you misguided souls now? All of you who dared sully the name of the legend Zinedine Zidane by mentioning it in the same sentence as Frank Lampard? Did you catch the Man Utd v. Chel$ki game? Anyone who did will realise one thing- Lampard is not and will never be good enough to lick Zidane's boots in front of Wembley before an England match.

Faced with a rather combative striker-turned-midfielder in Alan Smith, Lampard faded as the game went on. His deficiencies became more and more glaring and fataly exposed.

1) Lampard has only two styles of passing: short to Essien or Makelele, or long hunting for Drogba. Niether of these proved to be the formula to unlock a rather stubborn Man Utd defence.

2) Lampard cannot hit a dead ball. Of the several freekicks he took, not one troubled Van Der Sar. I'll bet all the Man Utd players on wall duty needed ice after the match.

3) Lampard turns on the ball with all the grace of an overloaded supertanker.

4) Lampard only looks good when Drogba manages to knock a ball down for him to hit (while it is in motion of course) and with Drogba expertly marshalled by a combination of Silvestre and Ferdinand, there were no such scraps for Lampard to feed on.

5) Lampard does not possess the quality or class needed to motivate a losing team facing equal opposition.

Lampard also failed to empose himself when the going got tough against Betis in the Champions League. Frank is a very good player in a very good team, but he is incapable of carrying his team in difficult times, something that Zidane has done for club and country over the years.

As far as technical qualities go the only thing Lampard has on Zidane is shooting. You can't possibly question the Englishman's ability to hit a football and he is cool infront of goal as well, but Zizou is superior in just about every other area. I suppose Lampard has a better tackle, but passing, dribbling, crossing, technique, ball control and overall skill go to ZZ.

Last night's feature showed that Lamps cannot hit a ball from rest to save his life!

What Lampard needs to hit an FK is often an opening in the wall. I noticed Fergie's been researching his FK technique..that's exactly why the wall never jumped when Lampard took em. His dead balls, more often than not, either find the hole which opens up when a wall goes in the air, or are grounders a la those Davids used to hit.

There is no such thing as a correct way to take a freekick as long as it goes where you want it to go, but Frank Lampard will never learn how to curl the ball beyond the reach of a keeper or get it over the wall before dipping below the bar, like all cultured freekick takers do.

Oh and another thing...Zidane's qualities of skill, vision, technique and class are hardly, if at all, affected by the toll of time. Lampard's on the other hand...

Lets just say come the age of 33 Frank will not be half the player Zizou is now.It is also why it is the Di Canios, Zolas and Maldini's that enjoy longevity in the game.

please.. using one game as a new argument. I mean - do you want me to come here and regurgitate my whole list of points each time he has a good game?

For the record Lamps was still the closest to scoring for Chelsea and but for a world class save from Van Der Sar would have equalised.

How can one game show that he cannot hit a ball from rest to save his life by the way. Watch his other matches this season and you'll know that not to be true.

He does have a decent success rate from freekicks...no argument there.

Lampards technic doesn't impress me, he's really slow and doesn't come off as versatile to me. I'm only impressed by he's passing and scoring. He's a beckie.
