We're asking you to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections, because a lot more than usual is at stake. People often complain that the European Institutions are too distant from the man in the street's concerns : well, here's a chance for you to make your voice heard.

Canada is cool, though. It's basically the US with social security and without the drive-by shootings. And they speak that funny form of french.

You guys should apply for EU membership I reckon :D

Speaking about the difference in voting behaviour between US/Canada and Europe just wanted to post this :D... sorry for going off-topic.

And in no way do I mean to offend anyone!

dont just blame the arabs. I'm not saying what they're doing is right, it definitely isn't, but the history between the jews and muslims go way back and there's too much history and enmity between us that I think it's almost impossible to make amends. I hope we do, and I don't have this 'anti jew' thing in me although I am muslim, but I could understand their remorse... we have all been through a lot.

The thing is it's not only the jews they seem to have a problem with. Most of those I am confronted with here simply hate anyone non-muslim. They found this new insult here towards the locals : when they don't label them as "miscreants", they call them "flemings" (inhabitants of Flanders). I say WTF : this is Belgium, the land where indeed Flemings live, so what's that supposed to mean?

The Belgians built mosques for them, they opened halal food shops, they created special sites where they can hold the Mutton Feast (don't remember the correct name), and yet this seems to never be enough. Of all the communities (Europeans, Congolese, Asians) present in this city, the arab community is the only one that has not integrated one bit. Many young muslims here have no education, they are unemployed (while over-taxed idiots like me pay their dole) and - sorry to say - often nasty little thugs too. There are second-generation muslims that barely speak French, let alone Dutch - I am technically an immigrant too, and I speak both!

It comes therefore as no surprise to me that the anti-immigration party Vlaams Blok is a serious contender for the upcoming regional elections. Though Im not Belgian, I am allowed under EU law to vote in local elections, and although I will never give my vote to a party that runs on a xenophobic platform, I kind of understand those poor Belgians who don't live in a nice area of town like I do and have to cope with this shit on a daily basis if they do.

Good points raised here, Kaiser.

If you migrate to another country, you have got to respect its culture and customs. But what many do (and this is applicable to many ethnic groups) is just get state benefits and social security for nothing.

I don't know why the Russian- speaking population of the Baltic countries gets pissed off when the Gov-t passes laws requiring people to at least speak the official language of the country.

true that. also its annoying when they live here for 50 years, and still refuse to speak our language. and they are pissed when people here refure to speak russina with them, which happens quite often thoigh most people above 20 are able to speak decent russian.

but who am i to complain, here we have quite few russians, what about latvia where only fifty some percent of population are latvians.

well I don't know why they're like that, it's kinda sad when you put it that way - islam is very specific in harmony; we have to respect others, learn from other races, islam values knowledge more than anything else ... I wish more muslims would really follow the religion in these terms :frown:
