A protest march was held in Rome today against the ‘fan passport’ law that comes into effect from January.

The new law has caused controversy by barring fans who do not have this specific identity card from attending away matches.

Ultras from different clubs have come together to stage the protest match and were estimated at several thousand.

Among the banners displayed was one that read: ‘If the fans are united, they will never be divided.’

The organisers asked the fans to stick to the planned chants and not break off into calls of support for their individual teams.

However, a recurring theme was anger at the killing of Lazio supporter Gabriele Sandri, who was shot by a police officer when in the back of a car in a motorway service station following an altercation with Juventus fans.

Some clubs, among them Palermo under President Maurizio Zamparini, have also come out against the new fan passport.

I think its for the best, enough flares and bombs already!

Bollocks.

A hardcore away support is an essential part of a good atmosphere.

Christian Vieri has flown to Brazil in order to sign for Boavista, ending his brief retirement, for $50,000 per month.

The former Inter, Milan and Fiorentina striker had announced he was hanging up his boots to become a professional poker player earlier this year.

However, website Globoesporte.com suggests Vieri touched down in Rio de Janeiro today in order to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Boavista are in the Brazilian third division and would be willing to pay a reported $50,000 per month for six months.

Within the deal are allegedly included a car with driver and a beach-side apartment.

    Amauri bothers me, says Pazzini

    Monday 16 November, 2009

Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini has admitted Amauri is giving him a little bit of bother in the run up to next summer's World Cup.

Pazzini desperately wants to make the Italy squad but could see his plans scuppered by Amauri, who is awaiting an Italian passport that would make him eligible to play for the Azzurri.

The fact Amauri was born in Brazil has led some members of the Italy camp like Rino Gattuso to question whether he should be allowed to play for La Nazionale.

Speaking at Italy's training camp ahead of tomorrow's friendly against Sweden in Cesena, Pazzini said: “I have to confess that it bothers me a little.

“I understand if someone is half Italian, but on his account he isn't Italian at all,” Pazzini concluded.

Amauri has been applying for an Italian passport for the last two years.

His wife had to prove that she was in fact Italian and he could then make a case for citizenship by virtue of being married to her.
