Sacchi critical of Juve defence
Tuesday 4 August, 2009
Former Milan Coach Arrigo Sacchi says Juventus' title challenge could be derailed by the lack of 'compatibility' between Fabio Cannavaro and Giorgio Chiellini.

Juventus have been very ambitious in pre-season, signing four players including Cannavaro who returns to the club after three years with Real Madrid.

“Juventus did well to go for a young trainer like Ciro Ferrara. The transfer market was good for them,” Sacchi wrote in his column.

“The only doubt regards the compatibility between the great Cannavaro and Chiellini as both of them have the same qualities.

“Ferrara is making good progress in terms of having an international squad. I hope he does not go back to old methods,” Sacchi concluded.

Cannavaro and Chiellini have performed well together so far in pre-season, letting in just one goal in the Peace Cup.

gotta love the last comment, it gives the answer :D

on a serious note, I see Legrotaglie at the moment much ahead of Cannavaro, but still bringing Cannavaro was a good idea, he is not done yet, his experience is enough to trust on him, not to forget he is not that old for a defender, remember how long Maldini and Costacurta and the likes played.. Our main problem is full backs, I fully trust on our central defense (if Legro keeps performing good)..

It's quite an odd comment by Sacchi, actually.

If criticising our defence, it would be much more obvious to question our fullbacks than our CBs.

is'nt liverpool supposedly stepping up the chase for aquilani in case xabi does bolt for madrid?

i hate the prospect of serie A losing another of it's talents to the "english" PL. especially since aquilani, together with de rossi and totti, seem to genuinely love playing for their hometown club.
We're eyeing up a lot of midfielders. Defour, Aquilani, Cattermole, Hamsik, Martinez and Cambiasso to be exact. Goaldotcom favors Aquilani, sky is reporting that we're only interested. It's tough to say what is exactly going to happen until the Xabi transfer goes through.

The Roma fans I speak to on another forum (who tend to be pretty well informed) don't think Liverpool have made an offer yet, but do expect Aquilani to go to Liverpool if the Alonso deal goes through.

Erm, Aquilani is a hell of a player. He's underrated here because he's always injured so I don't know how can people judge by that. When on form he's an amazing player IMO. Good technique, sweet passes and damn good shot. I always wanted to see him here. Too bad he's injury prone. He had an operation a few months ago at some famous doctor though, we're about to see if that's going to help him now.

About Roma,

it seems that the guy who wanted to buy Roma already sent some agent to Madrid. He's planning to bid a lot for some of Real's players that aren't used there as he could take over the Roman club eventually. They are talking about Huntelaar, Diara, Metzelder, Roben and Van der Vaart.

The scum of the earth (Inter) are looking very scary on paper. It will be interesting to see if they are going to stick with Stinkovic as a playmaker or they will splash some cash around. Since I believe heis their weakest link right now.

And some interesting news about Milan:

Not quite sure how I feel about Pirlo staying at Milan.

I hope Milan don't get Huntelaar.
