Pirlo to Chelsea should be very interesting. I personally think he will turn out to be a flop in England but we will wait and see. Although a midfield consisting of Essien, Pirlo, and Lampard looks too good to be true.

I think he will do very well. I think if Xabi can be so good for Liverpool I think Pirlo can easily for Chelsea.

Pirlo is one of the best mids in the world and with

Lampard and Essien with him Chelsea will have alot of quality in the midfield.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected an appeal made by Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu against an order to pay Chelsea £14.5m in damages.

The Blues sacked the Romania international in 2005 after he tested positive for cocaine.

FIFA instructed Mutu to pay the sum last summer, but he decided to take his case to sport's highest court.

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport has today dismissed the appeal filed by the Romanian football player, Adrian Mutu, against the decision rendered by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber on May 7, 2008 in which he was order to pay €17,173,990 in compensation… for breach of contract,” a statement read.

Last year, Mutu said he was disgusted by the decision, which he called 'inhumane'.

He feels his offence does not warrant such a stiff sentence.

Fiorentina stand by Mutu

After Adrian Mutu was ordered to pay Chelsea a £14.5m fine, Dario Dainelli reveals how his Fiorentina teammates are helping him.

The Romanian lost his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport today and must pay his old club £14.5m in damages after testing positive for cocaine in 2005.

“Obviously Adriano can’t be very happy about that,” commented Viola captain Dainelli.

“In any case, we are trying to take it all with a smile and a joke, so we’re having a bit of a whip-round to help him out.”

It will take quite a few contributions to make a dent in the £14.5m debt.

In the meantime, one of Mutu’s lawyers has announced plans to take his case through the civil courts.

“It is an unjust and illegal sentence,” said lawyer Colucci. “We can appeal to the Swiss tribunal within 30 days, as they can invalidate the CAS decision. Failing that, we have no other option but to go through the civil justice system.”

Fiorentina fans cheered on Mutu in today’s training session and President Andrea Della Valle also came out in favour of the Romanian.

“The club is behind him. Adrian needs to relax on this, it all seems rather over the top. Now the player is upset and angry, but with time it will pass.

“The whip-round is a good idea and I will help organise it tonight. Perhaps if the two parties could meet and discuss matters calmly, many things could be clarified.”

There are reports failure to pay could see Mutu suspended by the football authorities, which would have a devastating effect on Fiorentina.

“We will get all the information we can in the next few days so we can look after Mutu’s interests.”

I don't know what people see in Pirlo. Even in his best days he didn't fascinate me much. I don't like his style, he kills the rhythm of the game, chews the balls a lot. He's got a good vision though, but that's not enough. I wouldn't even take him for 10m.

in all honesty Pirlo is a terrific footballer, the problem is he would never fit into a Juve system, he is a player that needs to have protection to play and if you can get at him then the whole system falls down

I understand they lost money due to his actions but they are the ones that rescinded his contract. The case was only initiated after he played with us. They did not want to pay his wages for the duration of the suspension, which imo was a very foolish decision.

agreed Rab as you know i am someone who loves the sort of midfielder taht is more dynamic than pirlo, but that said i think Chelsea will be able to give him the protection required for him to make them that little more creative. with Essien next to him i believe they may well help him get his game back

Because Chelsea terminated the contract so as to make a name for themselves as an honest football club with some legacy...while they only did it coz Mutu was a flop and they paid for him..so they said WTH since he's a flop lets relieve ourselves from paying him every god damn year, lets terminate his contract. And 5 years later when their lawyer discovered that they could profit from this situation he made the lawsuit.
