Wow, that's surprising, he seemed to be set to sign for Ajax.

I really query whether Gooch can be meaningful signing for Milan. He's been the best defender in the Belgian league at times, but that only tells you so much. Decent backup I guess.
I think it was the Sarr/Onyewu combination that was the suc6, not Onyewu alone.
Sarr might have eve been the better of the two.
However, Onyewu's throw in's are a big danger, good thing Milan doesn't have the big guys to head them in the goal.

Ferrari to Besiktas for €6m?

Why did Genoa sell their best defender from last season for a relatively low ammount of money? And why didn't some other Italian club buy him?
Even if he'll turn 30 soon and his price will drop, he was really good for Genoa last year and to lose one of your best players for peanuts is really stupid.

Then again, maybe it was his choice and the Turks offered him much higher wages than any Italian club was prepared to pay.

The Italian league is better suited for Gooch than the Premiership. Playing for Newcastle's defense is like playing for a college team out there, so at Milan he'll have better players around him and a slower pace to deal with. Not to mention he'll obviously do better in a more team oriented defense.

But if he gets pulled out of the center too much, that's where he is exposed.

Lalas: “Most Italian clubs have at least one big forward, an Ibrahimovic, a Iaquinta, or whoever, and I think he’ll match up very well against those big forwards that a lot of these teams have,” Lalas said. “As a matter of fact, I think he’ll gobble them up.”

:seven:

Shut up, Lalas.

I guess the only positive about this for me is that Onyewu should become a better defender through this move, which will benefit us in the long run and potentially before the World Cup next year.

I just don't want to see him playing for those clowns.

Apparently this is already official.
Pretty strange move, then again we all know there's a lot of money going around in Turkey.

Good point. Of the 3 "big" leagues I'd have to say Italy is best suited for him.
Not exactly a big signing for Milan, but since he is a free player the risks are minimal. Also, I don't think he will be a top earner either, so that fits perfectly with Milan's new strategy.

Yeah lol, probably.

I think it will be 2mln/year at least.
I think it is a smart move from them considering they got him for free and have lost Maldini, Favalli and Senderos

But I dont see them paying him 2 million. Probably a little over 1. Similar to what we payed Mellberg. It is more that what he made before either way. Milan are really cutting their costs.

Anyway I dont think he will be a starter but once he learns some of the language and the systems Milan use he will be a great player for them and defn has the quality to be a starter.

As of now the sure fire starter is Nesta and Silva ... with Kaladze competing with them for a spot or at LB. Onyewu will probably take a role like Senderos took at Milan.
