I just think the world class tag is being thrown easily these days too. If the likes of rooney are going to be considered world class, im considering amauri.

Zlatan, Del Piero, Tores, Villa, Drogba, Pato, Benzema, Aguero.

See, he can hardly make it to my top 10.
You're talking in terms of general ability?

Well yes, then i pretty much agree with most of that list. Except i'd add Eto'o in there. He is better than half the players on that list.

But if you look at what Rooney has accomplished already. He will probably end up being the leading goal scorer for England, he has won the EPL title 3 times, the CL, FA cup and Club world cup. He has been playing regularly in the EPL since he was like 17. He is recognized as the best english forward and one of the best players in the world by many in the football world.

Amauri is a good player but he is not world class. He has not won anything at the highest level and only just begun to prove himself at a top team at the age of 27. Rooney is 23 and has done more than Amauri probably will in his career. He has played over 50 games for his country. Amauri still has yet to be played by Brazil (can't play for Italy yet).

Anyway I am not trying to diss Amauri but comparing the class of Rooney to Amauri is a bit of a stretch imo.

Yes, I'm rating them depending on overall abilities.

I just forgot Eto'o, he is certainly there.

BTW I don't rate Adeba among the top 25, I'm not sure if you agree.

yea but rooney is part of the best team in the world. (Well was anyway). It wasnt exactly him who carried the team it was ronaldo. By your theory we could just claim tevez is world class too.

As for english football, well the foreign players make up the epl. Theres like 35 % that start in the first 11 for the clubs. There hasnt been an english top goal scorer since 2001. IMO England havent produced a world class striker since Shearer. Now he was truly amazing, stuck loyal to newcastle when he could played for man utd. shame about his manager abilities tho
