OFFICIAL: PALERMO HIRE ZENGA

Friday 5 June, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo have shocked everyone by announcing the appointment of Walter Zenga, who only recently left rivals Catania.

Earlier this week Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini fell out with Davide Ballardini and started looking for a replacement.

Ballardini is yet to be fired by Zamparini, but reports suggest he will become the next trainer of Lazio, who were also chasing Zenga.

“I am very happy to have hired him, Zenga is a great man and a very good trainer. His determination really struck me,” Zamparini said.

Sources say Zenga has signed a two-year contact with an option of a third should he survive the wrath of Zamparini.

The choice to hire Zenga is controversial to say the least, as he only resigned from Catania on May 24.

By crossing the divide, Zenga leaves himself open to pressure and criticism from Catania fans and next year's Derby di Sicilia will certainly prove very interesting.

Balotelli thanks Cassano Friday 5 June, 2009

Inter striker Mario Balotelli has thanked Antonio Cassano for the kind words he said to him after being racially abused.

Balotelli was subjected to racist chanting by a section of Juventus fans when Inter travelled to Turin in April.

“I had various messages of respect after the racist chants, but the one closest to me was Cassano,” Balotelli said.

“He explained to me the errors that I have committed, the experiences that he has gone through and he filled me with advice.

“Yes, it surprised me a little, because seeing him from a distance I had a completely different opinion of him. Instead he is different, positive, and he helped me a lot.”

On being asked if one day soon he would play with Cassano at Inter, Balotelli replied: “I don't know if we will play together this year.

“I only know that in a little while we will be in the same team. I am going to my room and I will line myself up along side him on the Playstation,” he joked.
