Exactly, the mistakes this referee made can cost us dearly. The reality is we should cheer for Fiorentina in this competition harder than everyone else.
    - we need them to stay in CL so they wont trouble us in Serie A, they don't have squad for 2 competitions
    - they are the only italian team playings germans in CL right now, it may be the decider on CL spots

Of course we should bring some points to the table by ourselves, but right now we need all the help we can get. to play in CL next season, be able to attract good coach and players in the summer.
Perhaps you know that, but even if the Germans win the 3rd place this year, the 4th placed Italian team will still play in CL (if they pass the qualifiers) next year.

Anyway, if my calculations are correct, even this year the Germans can't win the 3rd place. For that to happen all the Italian teams will have to be eliminated from CL and Europa League as sooner possible, while the Germans will have to do great both in CL and Europa league.
The difference between Italy and Germany in the coefficient list is around 2.5 pts and that's quite a big difference with so little to go this season.

If Serie A loses the 3rd place then it will be in season 2012/2013.

One of our objectives are to play in CL next season. Quite indirectly, but the ref hurt our chances to get there. Celebrating refs failures at this situation seems pretty dumb to me.
Counting on others to reach our objectives seems pretty retarded to me.

my bad, i was wrong there.
Yeah, it's always been that way and I'll explain why:

The country rankings from season 2008/09 (last season) decides how many spots each country gets in season 2010/2011 (next year).
This way, in season 2009/2010 (this year) when teams play in their domestic leagues they know which places mean what. So if Napoli (God forbid) win the 4th place they can be sure that it brings them CL.

So the UEFA country rankings from this season (2009/10) will decide how will the CL places be shared 2 seasons from now i.e season 2011/2012.
If Germans win the 3rd place in UEFA this year then only from season 2011/12 they will have 4 spots in CL.
But since, as I said in the previous post, I doubt that the Germans will manage to win that 3rd place this year, it means that even in season 2011/12 the Italians will have 4 spots in CL.

I hope this wasn't too confusing and I hope it helped. :)

In other words, what happened to Fiorentina last night was just great.

Germany will almost certainly get that 4th spot in 2012/13, right? Because the 05/06 results won't count any longer.

    True about the bold part.
As for the rest, since season 05/06 won't count, it will depend how good the Italians and the Germans will do next season, or the rest of this season. The Germans will start with a 2.5-3.0 pts advantage and the Italians will have to do really good next year if they don't want to lose the 4th place in 2012/13.

As much as I would hate Italy losing a CL spot, I would hate it, even more, if Neralosers manage to defeat Chelsea.

I hope Fiorentina and Milan go through!!!

Btw: How much does a first place in Europa League, for Juve, count in the EU-co-eff and what about how well the national team performs?
