Screw TSN and it's curling instead of CL. The CL is on Sportnet now for Canadian viewers. :beer:

Rogers Sportsnet, sportsnet.ca and Setanta Sports will offer Canadian soccer fans unprecedented coverage of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a new three-year agreement starting in 2009.

Sportsnet, Canada’s live-event television leader, and Setanta Sports, The Home of International Soccer, will be the exclusive Canadian broadcasters of UEFA Champions League through 2012. Sportsnet will broadcast extensive live coverage, including matches on delayed basis. As well, sportsnet.ca and setanta.com/ca will simulcast a selection of matches live online.

"We are thrilled our soccer fans will access unparalleled coverage of the UEFA Champions League," said Doug Beeforth, President, Rogers Sportsnet. "Along with Setanta Sports, we will give Canadians more choice of games than ever before."

"The deal with Sportsnet and UEFA is an opportunity for Setanta to enhance our current coverage of the UEFA Champions League," said Errol Hinds, General Manager, Setanta Sports (Canada). "As a result, soccer fans are the real winner with more UEFA Champions League matches scheduled to be broadcast live in Canada than ever before."

The combined Sportsnet and Setanta coverage features over 146 Champions League matches each season, culminating in the UEFA Champions League Final.

"UEFA is extremely happy to confirm this new rights deal for the UEFA Champions League in Canada," said a spokesperson from UEFA. "Rogers Sportsnet and Setanta Sports are going to ensure tremendous exposure for the competition in Canada over the next three seasons and UEFA is very much looking forward to developing the relationship during this time."

Finally. Fuck TSN. They played shit like culring and darts over CL games for far to long. It was inevitable though since Fox Soccer Channel outbid ESPN for the CL rights. This also means no more Tommy Smith, but I'm sure the coverage will still be equally as bias and clueless, as is custom for North American football commentary.

There will still be an english bias though. Only games that involve prem teams will be showed. Hopefully we get 1 in our group.

I hope some other channel like FSWC get some rights on the games they're not showing. I'm afraid Sportnet will shove us some English club game LIVE down our throats. :mad:

You shouldn't have any problems because Celtic aren't set up to try and make the game a physical battle, they'll just try and beat you by playing football.

It could be close at Parkhead, but Arsenal should win comfortably overall.

Well actually no, i'm not feeling confident for tonight. Celtic are always a tough test on their turf. They could as well surprise us. I'm feeling confident about qualifying. But today's match could make it tougher.

They're not absolutely awful. I mean, you won't hammer them in both legs or anything like that. I think the leg in Glasgow (tonight?) will be close. Overall I think Arsenal will go through comfortably.

That's true Aushim. Nakamura's set pieces could have caused us a lot of problems, we're not good in defending set pieces. Thank god he's gone.

Yes, also it's Celtic's first Champions League with Strachan in a while, and they've brought in Mowbray who was harrendous in the Premiership, let's see now in the Champions League lol. And it's nice to have you back, Fred! :tup:

They aren't that bad (this is actually shaping up to be quite a good Celtic team), but they aren't close to Arsenal's level.

They also lack the ability to lock a game down, they will play with a lot of width and try and get the wingers one-on-one with your fullbacks.

Their CBs are slow, their fullbacks are mediocre and they are vulnerable at set pieces.

McGeady still lacks end product and Sagna and Clichy are both miles better than anything he faces in the SPL.

McGeady even struggles to make an impact when Aberdeen face up to him properly.

And Shaun Maloney is an excellent set piece taker. He isn't as good as Nakamura at shooting, but he is very good at putting the ball into dangerous areas.
