Vermaelen may have done a good job of covering Messi, but his pushing up to close Messi partially contributed to both Barca's goals.

The primary blame lies with Song for not covering properly, but I would want the senior CB in that circumstance to hold the shape, rather than charging out to close a player down like that.

I think Vermaelen is generally too aggressive in his attempts to step out of position to win possession. He got done by Ibrahimovic when he tried it in the first half too, which resulted in Ibrahimovic having a clear run on goal from the half way line and hitting the side netting.

I still think they deserve respect for the way they play football, i said you were right about Barca fanboys not about Barcelona.

Barca fanboys claiming Barca deserved respect for yesterday made me realize that indeed some people take it too far when it comes to Barcelona, it wasn't the only factor though, a few weeks ago people were calling Real Madrid chokers and saying that the Liga was a mickey mouse competition because Real is on top yet lauding Barca last season for winning it. All those factors combined together made me realize that indeed there are some people who are biased to Barcelona while not being(at least not in the open) Barca fans.

How Barcelona deserves respect for completely choking despite having 68% of posession and half a dozen clear cut opportunities is beyond me.

For that, i say again, you and Alen were right about the fanboys.
And my previous war was never against Barcelona but against its fanboys. When I used to say that they suck and they are chokers it was just an attempt to raise rage in their fanboys and I succeeded at numerous amount of times. And as you mentioned, not being fans in the open is what's it's all about. I am biased towards Juventus but I have all the right to do so, I'm a Juve fan and it's part of that to claim that my club is the best, the strongest, the most popular etc.

And I can say the same thing about your question of respect from last night's match...How do they deserve respect for their win against Chelsea last season after having one single shot on target in the extra time?

I end it all here, I promised many not to discuss Barcelona fanboyism on this forum and I will stay to my promise. The team is good and they deserve the trophies they are gathering but their fanboys :mute:

Gallas is arguably a more important absence. Mostly due to the fact that we do not have a good enough replacement for him.
Tbh, even if I want Arsenal to eliminate Barca, after yesterday's result I didn't give much chances to Arsenal for the 2nd leg, even if you had a full team.
But these injuries of Cesc, Arshavin and Gallas drastically ruin your chances in the EPL. Your team can still beat the minors even without your best players (which Cesc, RVP, Arshavin and Gallas are, together with few more) but with 6 matches to go, 2 of them against very good teams fighting for the CL, I simply don't see you doing a miracle. At least on one match your boys won't be able to win and considering the 3-4 points deficit you already have, it's gonna be enough not to win the EPL.
Shame. The injuries destroyed your season. They were hurting the team all season long and yesterday's ones were just the icing on the cake.

cough cough sol cough cough :D
Against the smaller English sides, Sol is good enough, but against decent teams with half decent strikers, he has already shown he is not up to task anymore.

Doesn't take anything away from him, my respect for him has increased ten fold since he's come back because if theres on thing you can say about Sol, its that he gives 110% every game. Unfortunately against the Messi's and Ibrahimovic's of the world that isn't enough.

You're right, even with a full team our chances are extremely low, no doubt about that at all. Barca will not always make the mistakes they made in the last 15 minutes yesterday, and at the Camp Nou its near impossible to beat them anyway. With the depleted squad we have now, our chances are not more than 10%, it would be a surprise if we did it.

As for the league, ya, i completely blame Wenger for fucking it all up yesterday as if the CL was all we had left. Neither Fabregas nor Gallas should have played yesterday, we have the EPL to think about, but Wenger seems to care more about the CL, to the extent that it made him forget about the league. I am still clinging on that little hope that we can win the league, but i admit its a long shot. The likes of Nasri, Theo, Diaby, Denilson and Song should step up now and show that they are up to the task. This is their chance, its now or never.

About the fanboy stuff. They may be like that, even the majority or whatever. What I don't like about what is happening here is that people are generalising the attitude of some. Then everyone goes up in arms when there is a hint of appreciation towards that team.

Basically its like saying all the Juve fans are racists cunts who burn their stadiums, slap their players around and don't support their team enough.

About the game. What they have done against you guys is exactly the same as what they have done all season and for years now. They always have all the possession, create shitloads and miss them.
No manager in the world could get a squad like the one Arsenal have right now to play in such an entertaining way. I'd like to see if the roles were reversed and Wenger had Xavi, Messi, Zlatan, Keita, Busquets and Alves while Guardiola had Denilson, Diaby, Song, Cesc and Bentdner.
But Wenger doesn't want that. He has money but he wants to create his teams on his way. Its his choice to get those players, credit to him for making them play well but I won't feel sorry for him. We're not talking about a small club with no resources here.

Another point that was interesting for me (which I liked a bit) was how dirty Arsenal played trying to get the ball when they faced a better footballing team than them :D.

Barcelona go away from home, dominate play, agaist one of the best sides around, and cone away with a 2-2 draw. If that's choaking, I am sure they hope they choak every game.

    Daft.

You mean wenger had brought in proven 'older' players for high ammounts of money that would compliment his system? I think you unwittingly proved my point there Fred.

Preaching to the choir, been saying this to my Gooner brother and his Gooner friends who laude him too much when he mainly stood out for his offensive skill. But he was the senior CB last night, and he aint no Gallas for sure, but did more right then wrong in several sitautions last night. Plus how he played seemed pretty deliberate, instead of his usual style, that it was more like a tactical instruction he got from Wenger to push up and stick to Messi (and he did that well). He was quite busy covering for Clichy too. But problem was, who was supposed to cover for Vermalen?
