The Times doesn't sound particularly sure that Chelski will retain Arjen Robben's services, noting: 'Robben has two years left on his contract, but Real Madrid are confident that they have been given the green light to sign him for about £15 million.

'Chelsea remain keen on Florent Malouda as a possible replacement for Robben on the left flank. Lyons have said they are willing to sell him, but Chelsea must increase their offer from £12 million to £17 million. The France player returned to training yesterday.'

Malouda is a very useful player...This is a good deal for chelsea..But IMO Robben when not injured is the complete winger..If they do sell him i'd say its because he wants to go.

I think Chelsea will make a good job if they sell Robben and buy Malouda just cuz Robben is too much injury-prone, but like fred said Robben is better when he is fully fit...

Malouda Could Choose Madrid Over Chelsea

Florent Malouda would be prepared to reject an offer from Chelsea if Real Madrid were to make an offer for him, according to Marca.

The French international is set to leave Olympique Lyonnais this summer and has been quoted in England as stating that he is keen to move to Stamford Bridge.

Madrid-biased Marca though believe that now that los Merengues have entered the fray, he has set his sights on a move to the Bernabéu and is waiting for something official to materialise.

The Spanish giants have sent sporting director, Miguel Ángel Portugal to France to speak to Malouda's representatives and are staying in constant contact on the telephone.

Malouda reportedly told Portugal that he would turn down any offer from Chelsea if Madrid made a concrete bid and nis now waiting for some movement.

A new left-sided midfielder has become a priority for the Spanish champions and president Ramón Calderón has confirmed that the choice has boiled down to two players.

While the interest in Malouda has only just surfaced, Madrid have been linked with a move for Chelsea' Arjen Robben, who is also keen to move.

"We like Robben and Malouda," Calderón said.

"But they play in the same position and we will only sign one of them."

Chelsea's position was weakened at the start of the week after Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, claimed that felt the Blues were not committed to tying up the deal.

"I am not sure Chelsea have the desire or the means to call out to Florent Malouda," he explained.

"Peter Kenyon said to Flo he was leaving for Moscow to meet the Roman Abramovich. Sometimes, things happen quickly.

"But I don't feel these people really want to tie up this deal."

Malouda For Chelsea Means Robben For Madrid?

The Spanish press indicates that Real Madrid's attempts to land Chelsea winger Arjen Robben could be made easier should the Blues manage to secure Lyon's Florent Malouda.

Arjen Robben is reportedly willing to go to Real Madrid, but there has yet to be a formal bid accepted by the Blues to allow him to go to the Bernabeu. Spanish paper AS, however, speculates that Madrid's attempt to lure the Dutchman to Spain could yet become easier.

Chelsea target Florent Malouda is apparently on his way to Stamford Bridge after Kenyon and Abramovich offered 25 million euros (£16.8m) for the left winger. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is allegedly happy with the figure, and now only personal terms need to be agreed between club and player.

This could yet hasten Robben's departure from London. The Dutchman, whilst counting Roman Abramovich amongst his biggest fans, did not have the best of seasons in 2006-07, suffering from numerous minor injuries and thus starting just 21 league games.

While Robben had earlier professed his desire to stay, increased competition for that left wing slot could see him move on to pastures new.
