Sampdoria striker Francesco Flachi is facing a lengthy ban after testing positive for cocaine.
Flachi failed a routine drugs test after the Serie A match against Internazionale on 28th January, which Sampdoria lost 2-0.
He must now wait to learn his fate as the Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping lab carries out tests on his B sample.
Flachi, who was banned for two months earlier this season after being caught up in a betting scandal, could face a year out of the game if he is found guilty of a doping offence.
He is expected to be suspended in the meantime as a precautionary measure.
