I saw the match, and I don't recall any stepping on referee's feet..
Exactly! We don't have images of him stepping on his feet and, if you watch the video of the red, there is also no reaction of the ref. If someone steps on your feet you'd surely move or indicate them what they did. Nothing.
Who knows.. surely, if it happened, it was nothing major, probably just an accident.

Category: General

Juventus’ promotion bid has been rocked by a five-match ban handed to star midfielder Pavel Nedved.

The former Czech international was handed the severe punishment after he was sent-off in injury time of Friday’s 1-1 draw with Genoa following his stamp on Francesco Bega.

“Nedved, in the 47th minute of the second half, voluntarily trod on his opponent’s ankle,” read an official note from the disciplinary commission.

“And after being consequently sent off by the referee, offended him and stamped on his foot, with no damaging consequences.”

The Old Lady of Italian football, already dealing with an injury crisis, are expected to appeal against the sentence.

Meanwhile, Napoli have received a one-match home ban plus a fine following the problems encountered on Saturday during the home game with Frosinone.

The Partenopei supporters threw flares and fireworks into the stands and on to the pitch, causing the game to be suspended on two occasions.

The Azzurri, top of the Second Division, will now be forced to play the next match at the San Paolo Stadium with Mantova behind closed doors.

Turning to the Serie A suspensions, 11 players have been given one-match stops after the Week 14 ties.

They are: Massimo Donati (Atalanta), Maurizio Lanzaro (Reggina), Andrea Pirlo (Milan), Marco Zanchi (Messina), Daniele De Vezze (Messina), Mark Iuliano (Messina), Luca Antonini (Siena), Paul Costantin Codrea (Siena), Marco Di Loreto (Torino), Sisenando Douglas Maicon (Inter), Patrick Vieira (Inter).

Source: Football Italia

Five matches puts this in the felony category. I'd give him a misdemeanor and a three-match ban to be generally fair. What he did was completely wrong in that match and a message should be sent. But five matches? That's fishy...

Thanks Dominic for the clips & to Elisa for the info link
If Pavel had been an inter player, he would have got away with anything. Because he is a Juve player, he is given an excessive punishment. No-one is perfect, and everyone's temper can be broken if pushed far enough! Farina was biased in his officiating. Even in Dominic's post/youtube clip, you can see Pavel being floored seconds before he reacted to the ref's whistle for his foul. How many times did farina let Genoa away with that! Pavel & Juve are right to appeal. They should also put in an official complaint against farina.

As for the 5 match ban, it is obvious that it is excessive. It should have been 3. They have done this because they know that farina was biased against Juve, & that Juve would have been justified in appealing even if it was only 2 or 3. So they made it 5, so that they could be seen to "be fair", when they reduce it to 3.

Firstly I want to say that I just read about this, I didn't hear it with my own ears.

As you probably know, Nedved, Balzaretti and Birindelli aren't the only ones who got banned after the Genoa match. Rampulla, Esposito (masseur) and Corradini (vice-coach) have been banned too.

A couple of minutes ago Rampulla (on Telelombardia, a TV Channel of northern Italy) said that what farina (no capital letter for him) wrote about him, Corradini and Esposito on his refert is false.

Michelangelo also said this wasn't done in good faith.

Comments?

Edit:
Here are the sentences (according to Rampulla) and the farina translations:

Rampulla: "How do you dare to ref this way?"------> grave offense to the ref.
Esposito: "Grande Gigi!"-----> Shame on you!

not worth 5 games, but then again if anyone has ever played competitive sports knows that its not a matter about being "clean", its about being aggressive. not completely unwarranted
