Seems pretty narrowminded to say that sort of thing.
If we care about Italian football we must realize that a succes for any Italian team in europe is for the good of us aswell.

    Angelo Di Livio will continue to captain Fiorentina in Serie C2 after signing for the new club.

    The 35-year-old former Juventus star, who became a fan favourite during his captaincy at AC Fiorentina, was free from his contract due to the club’s bankruptcy.

    Despite offers from Roma and several Premiership sides, Di Livio decided to drop down three divisions in order to stay with the Florence side.

    The news was confirmed by director Giovanni Galli, who also pointed out that the 2002 World Cup player “had accepted a Serie C2 wage” on his two-year contract.

    It is an extraordinary act of loyalty towards the fans and this new club, created following over 12 months of tense negotiations to avoid bankruptcy.

    The club is now called Florentia Viola as lawyers warned President Diego Della Valle that use of the term’ Fiorentina’ in the former title, Fiorentina 1926 Florentia, left them open to legal action.

    Former Fiorentina midfielder Angelo Palombo has signed a four-year contract with Sampdoria.

    That is just wonderful. Truly a class act.

    Probably the first player to play in a WC then play in C2 the next season too.
