The talent in Canada is there, however the majority never go on to become pro's. They make the smart decision and go to uni or find a job once they turn 18 due to the soccer infrastructure in Canada being shit. The ones who go on to play for 2nd and 3rd division teams in Europe or in the MLS arent the best we have to offer.

It's gonna be like this for a long time too. Despite more youths enrolled in soccer than any other sport in Canada (including hockey), the media and government still treats soccer like a second class sport.
yep.

USA played ok, you can't expext much against technically superior enemy when playing with 9 men behind the ball and one lonely guy upfront. Italy seemed rather not so good, got to thank Tim Howard and Webb for the three points as much as de Rossi and Rossi.
What is your problem with Howard, and what do you know about him?

He wasn't at fault for the goals and is a very good keeper.

For once the Azzurri put in a good performance and I was rooting against them for the first time in 3 years. I really wish Rossi had chosen to play for the U.S. but I understand why he didn't. This is a bad situation for the U.S. to be in now we have to beat a tough looking Egypt and hope that the Azzurri beat Brazil because I don't think we can do better than a draw against them

I see Toni as being the better chioce to Gila....at least he opens things up & finds space. Gila just disappears, and gets out-muscled when given a chance

The ref was all around bad; the red card should have been a yellow, the USA own-goal should have counted, and Altidore made the most of his fall over Chellini in the box (tell me he falls like that when he is not in or near the box)

I thought Italy played pretty piss poor, its already been said, but Zambro is a shell of his former self, Grosso has never been the same player he was at WC 06, Gattuso is finished, Gila doesnt belong on the team, I am having serious doubts about Camo, and Toni cant find the net when he gets chances.

Rossi was our M.O.M. (obviously)

We'll see if Egypt runs circles around us on Thursday......

Gila sucked. I thought the Chiellini foul was the right call, but Jozy did try to sell it for effect. I thought the offsides call on the own goal was pretty obvious.

I never said Italy played well, but that they were not outplayed. Italy's passing and off the ball movement was superior relative to how the Americans play football, but that doesn't say much.

Their midfield longballed in space for their forwards to run onto, whereas Pirlo would longball onto the head of Iaquinta or Gila, or the foot of an attacking fullback.

The Americans chances came off uncharacteristic Italy give aways (fucking Pirlo needs to stop dallying). If Italy were being outplayed, the Americans would have been able to create more chances but that wasn't the case. Only when Italy fucked up did they threaten.

I'm not saying Italy played great, but to claim the Americans bossed the game is non-sense. Even with 11 men, you could tell they were an American team the way they were playing football. Nothing controlling about it.
American style is kind of a fast counter attacking style. Where we draw the opponent in and break through the midfield. If you look at how we beat Portugal and Mexico in '02 and how we played against Spain last year you'll realize that's the style we play against better teams. You don't have to control the play entirely to be successful.

That's basically what happens in the US unless a player is really good like Rossi or Johny O'Brien and they get snatched up by a European team. That and our training system going through the University's and private clubs is just not the same as the professional academies in Europe.

How so? The player was in a offside position and attempted to play the ball. Even though he didn't get to it he influence the defenders touch and was therefore
'a part of the play'. If he had dummied or tied his shoe or something I would agree with you. Either way the initial offside was missed or late from the linesman.

People, in that case, should say 'this is a poor Italy team', not 'Italy is a poor team'.

Anyway, Italy are going through a transitional period where they are trying to figure out how to replace some aging stars and they aren't doing it particularly well.

With Lippi in charge, they will still be a force to be reckoned with at the World Cup.
If you remember the Italy team in 2006 wasn't very good either. I mean they played well leading up to the tourney, but struggled against teams like the US and Australia. Never really looking unbeatable, but in the end they managed to win.

But yeah I would agree that Italy is not a poor nation, but that the team at the moment is playing poorly as far as it's Champion of the World standards go.

Vinni, Camoranesi was interfering with the play. That's why Bornstein sent the ball past Howard. And that's why the linesman raised his flag right away.

Toni sucks too. But I'd go with Rossi in the mix no matter who the other two jokers are.

Shhh... don't mention O'Brien. He won't know who that is.
