they way i read prandellis comments i think he thinks melo does not have much of a footballer-brain. i read it as if you really need to tell melo what to do, because if you let him decide what to do, he will make backheels in defense, hold on to the ball too long and so on

Juve already prepared to sell Melo
Tuesday 22 December, 2009
Juventus are already considering selling their Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo with English side Arsenal in mind.

The 26-year-old has been a very expensive flop since his £18.5m transfer from Fiorentina in the summer which also included two players in exchange.

He was voted the worst signing of the year earlier this month and came to be substituted after just 32 minutes against Catania on Sunday.

Juventus are apparently keen to discover if the competition they faced from Arsenal for Melo in the summer was in fact true or just a cunning mind game played by Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understand Juventus would like to recoup as much of their initial investment as possible, but it's unlikely any team would take Melo in spite of his performances in the Confederations Cup during the summer.

Ciro Ferrara is reported to have wanted Udinese's ball-playing midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino only for the board to lose patience during negotiations and turn their attention to the much more expensive Melo, who is an anchor man like Momo Sissoko and Christian Poulsen.

Ferrara and Melo's relationship is now said to be like the weather in Italy, consistently sub zero, as demonstrated in the fact they didn't shake hands following his substitution on Sunday.

The former Almeria youngster then came out and complained that he is not a playmaker and shouldn't be played as such. It remains to be seen what action Juventus will take over the 17-day winter hiatus.

I'm on Melos side. How come he was brilliant at viola and crap with us? Even prandelli said he is played in wrong position.
He doesnt have right role and trying to do something which he can not
But how brilliant was he at Fiorentina? Did anyone here watch (almost) every Viola game last season?
I for one did not (only watched a few), but it always amazed me how he was being heralded as one of the best midfielders in Serie A all of a sudden. I am not saying that he was a bad or mediocre player, but perhaps a lot of people were somewhat blinded by the hype.

From what I have gathered these past few months (both from what I have seen & what certain people who know something about him, like Prandelli, have said), we have bought an extremely limited player for a lot of money.
Limited in the sense of the position this guy can play & the kind of players he needs to have beside him to perform.
And, like virtual said, he is just not a smart player. Something that I picked up on last season, but it has become a lot more obvious this season.

If that's the case, than the team underperfoming is less Ciro's fault and more the management's fault. They bought a player for a position, for which we already have 3 players (Momo, Marchisio and Poulsen) + a good youngster (Marrone) in exchange for the only playmaker we have (Zanetti). Add the fact that we lost two wingers, one due to retirement and the other one we sold, so both 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 are pretty risky, because of insufficient depth. Therefore, we only can play 4-3-1-2 and yet we can't, because we lack a player for a crucial position.

well, we paid big money for him, so maybe this is one more of "great" Lippi's insights.

We only paid so much for him because he had a good Confederations Cup. I don't think we'd ever have shelled up 20 million for him if it wasn't for that tournament.

If... IF this is true, and Juventus have decided that Melo is not needed or wanted, then sell him to Arsenal, and posibly get two players back (of course depending of those two players) then why not?

I think that Melo's poor performances are Ferrara's fault, Ferrara has not known or not found a way how to motivate players and work with them when they have been performing poorly. It is seen recent awful matches. If Juve lost at first half, whole team rarely comeback and win matches.

watch him be a beast at whatever team he goes to, yea we are going to sell him just before the afro nations cup load of wank.
The way I see it we have two options:

1. Sell him and see if we can get a good deal and bring some replacement (Im not entirely convince we need a replacement in his position)
2 - Not sell him and wait to see if the next coach (if theres going to be a next coach) can use him better.

Consequences of the first option: Juve admit that Secco screw up big time, and now they lose the big investment made to bring Melo, now you have to do damage control... find a replacement if need it (in my opinion we could need a diferent kind of player).

Consequenses of the second option: If we keep Ferrara, then Melo is done, he obiously dont know how to use him, or he expects that Melo does something that he cant do. In the case that a coach comes to replace Ferrara, then we can hope that he can use Melo rigth. Other thing that we must have in consideration is the "relation" between Melo and the fans, the last game you saw our fans going against him, this could make a problem with the player who could ask for a move away from the team.

selling a player just half a season after you bought him would be rather stupid ... give him some time (which is not to say, that i dont blame ferrara ... ha ha)

If we sell him to Arsenal I fear he could be another Henry, Wenger definately knows what hes doing when it comes to signing world class players so if Arsenal even show a slight interest we shouldn't sell. I really hope Melo comes good, he did impress me in his first few games and I wonder if this is a confidence thing, like he has 1 bad game then another, the crowd get on his back and it becomes a vicious cycle. I don't like the way how our fans boo our own players as I don't think that is right at all, fair enough boo the team at the end of a game if they just haven't put the effort in but to single out individual players is ridiculous and does no good for the team whatsoever!

We paid some 18 Mil for him, and he was utilized so well that he was voted as worst signing of the season.
Do u think we could get more than 7 mil now?

Sell Poulsen and Tiago and for that money we can bring new coach and one defender. Our team is good enough to win

I think we could still get at least 15m for him. It's not as though everyone else is having stormers week in and week out with Melo being the only one under performing.

The whole team is playing rubbish and unfortunately for Ciro when that happens the blame is always leveled on the coach.

I don't want to sell him though, I think he'll be a good player for us.
