The year we were promoted I believe... We are into the third year and we are pretty strong already...
I recall the "5 years until we are back to our old level" statement was made in the summer of 2006 (directly in the aftermath of the verdicts). So, we're actually going into our 4th season post-calciopoli...of the so-called plan.

so as long i've been snooping around this forum, everytime we were linked to another DM, it sounded like you guys were going to meet in torino and crucify secco...the majority of people complained that we were desperate for that "xabi alonso" type with his killer passing...why is everyone suddenly ok with spending a massive amount of money on another DM (thats what he is, dont show me 2 youtube videos where he can dribble). I really like melo, but i feel like the board just got him not b/c we needed him, but b/c there was a chance to get him. if d'ago was rated at 18 mil, is this guy really worth 7 mil more??

im hoping the only reason we picked him up is to replace poulson, but i wish we would of landed d'ago instead

:agree:
That's what I think, too. Why do we spend so much money for this position again?

Should this not count as our 3rd year cos I dont think Serie B should be included as there was no way we could of started building a competive team until we got promoted.

Unless you want to count introducing Giovinco, Marchiso and De Ciegle to our squad cos that happened in B.

you are correct.

the 5 year plan did start when ranieri was appointed as manager.

damn, i do get annoyed lately reading stuff from people that do not think further then they can spit. (thats not directed at you, Big Daddy)

how can someone that thinks he is not guilty have already a plan for the case he gets sued/caught ?

Not exactly. Melo isn't just a destroyer, and his regular position is CM although he did play DM for Viola. The guy can actually pass the ball rather well and does add drive to the middle of the park, adding a bit of Brazilian flavor on the way by means of having a good eye for moving the ball around.

Considering Melo is younger and has proven himself in two top leagues, I think it's apparent that he is the better investment and a more suited player for the long haul in Serie A.

Spending 25M Euros on an unproven D'Agostino might have backfired.

Can't seem to find the original interview, but this is from Jan 07 (which refers to Blanc's comments from Summer '06)...first reference to this "5 year" plan, as far as I remember. So, we are going into the 4th year as far as I'm concerned.

No later than five months ago, Juventus’ CEO Blanc said to sport newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” that “Juventus cycle has finished and it will take 4 or 5 years to build a winning team: it’s not lack of ambition, it’s realism”. After that, Vieira, Ibrahimovic, Fifa World Player Cannavaro, Emerson and coach Capello left the club. Oil company Tamoil terminated the 10 years sponsorship contract due to Calciopoli scandal, causing to Juve a loss of more than 100 million Euros. The Bianconeri also lost UEFA money as they couldn’t play in Champions League, and everyday we read interviews where players talk about their future far from Turin.

Hey Alen,

you are the master of statistics. You had some nice statistics for d'agostino. Could you come up with similar statistics for Melos season with fiorentina ?

thanks in advance
Well, he's not the type of a player that will have some great statistics, which doesn't mean he wasn't great.
But you see, players like Sissoko and Gattuso can have great season but the stats don't show that. The same is with Melo.

He had 1224 successful passes (out of 1489 passes). That's much better than any Juve player (the best passer last year in Juve was Nedved with 893 succ. passes out of 1079) but compared to D'Agostino it doesn't look great, although Melo has a better ratio. (D'Ago had 1671 successful passes out of 2141).

Melo won 76 tackles (the best in Juve was Molinaro with 85, while D'Ago was the best in the league with 109).

He was great in intercepting passes (which shows good movement and good positioning). He intercepted 113 passes. The best in Juve in this category was Molinaro with 96 intercepted passes, while D'Agostino had 93 intercepted passes.

He made quite a lot of fouls. 90 fouls committed (top 5 in serie A). He was also in top 5 regarding yellow and red cards. :D

So what your trying to say is that he's as good as Molinaro and maybe slightly better?! well...thats not good enough...he should be world class
