There are 3 things Gatti needs to memorise and adhere to:
  1. Never pass back into our box.
  2. Never take a long shot outside the opponents box.
  3. Never overlap unnecessarily and abandon your position.

He won't do any of this, because somehow instead of a limited bruiser CB, he thinks he is a Beckenbauer or Scirea.

Tactically wide CBs joining build up at times is good thing. But does it waaaay too much with the runs forward etc.

The idea of not forcing the initial pass when it wasn’t on and turning backwards made sense, however he then panicked, was uncertain on what to do next, didn’t trust switching the ball on his weaker foot and resulted in comedy.

I’m sure it’s tactical and he’s been told to do it. The RCB is expected to overlap because the RCM doesn’t come out wide, the CF that drops short is regularly on the left and this leaves McKennie or the RWB isolated due to our lopsided 3-5-2 that focuses on the left.

From what I recall when Danilo has had to play RCB he makes those runs, when he plays LCB he rarely does.
When the RCB goes, Locatelli or the central of the 3 mids is expected to sit and cover.

I really like the runs, why not we have 2 CBs left anyway. Him in the enemies box resulted in 3 goals already

Hopefully the mistakes won’t stay a part of his game like we had with De Ligt.

Yeah I noticed the same, so agreed. But sadly unlike Danilo as RCB, Gatti is really bad in this task, as he is in playing out the back bit.

And Danilo not special at thar since he is mr play it safe in attacking space. But he has occasional through ball or cross in him, and doesn't mindlessly rush forward like Gatti does too much.

We badly need to sign an LCB so we can bench Gatti and move back Danilo to RCB.

The idea of the runs is good, the executions are bad mostly for him. Both in possesion and marauding runs. He so clumsy.

If it was someone else would appreciate it more. Runs in like a horse with blinders alot.

Agreed 100%

Although some of his crazy runs in the box have lead to goals and penalties being awarded to us. We should have had one last night too. VAR doing usual VAR things against us.

Maybe overlap was the wrong choice of word. I meant the times when he would chase a wild ball and suddenly he is at the opponents corner flag completely forgetting that he is ridiculously out of position and oblivious to the danger.
Sort of like when kids are playing footie and the ball rolls into the road and one just dashes blissfully unaware of the danger.

Coincidentally our only two losses this season had a Gatti own goal in them… not gonna fault him too much for tonight though.

Putting the own goal aside, Dimarco is totally unmarked in the gif. Who is more to blame, Gatti or Cambiaso? Or that it's nobody's fault but a pinpoint pass from Pavard.

Gatti seems to point towards Cambiaso to cover DiMarco/far post at the last moment while he doubles on Lautaro’s run but it was too late and were both caught out…

I think it’s a 50-50 there, each needed to be more aware of their surroundings, but the cross was excellent too.
