Nah. He played there before and always had this insane workrate, and Cuads was always best as RWB imo, not exactly lazy tracking back as well. We taught them nothing.

Mandzu offers one thing none of the fancy alternatives can provide - aerial prowess.
We are under pressure (...which is gonna be even more the case without BonBon now, i know you don't wanna hear it) so our CB's can always hoof it forward to the left, knowing Mario is gonna win the header 9/10 times. Safe way round getting pressured early.

Or he's getting into the box as second striker for crosses, none of the other midgets are useful for that, not to mention his quick flick offs are great too.

I'm all for keeping the lopsided system. Because this style really offers unpredictability, unlike having 2 braindead wingers running up and down the flank.
:agree:

cant believe people STILL dont realize how important Mario is for this team. incredibly short memories

Max was perfectly on point about him in a recent interview. Berna indeed has a habit of losing the easily losing the ball.
But he's a #10 fantasista kind of player. He will lose the ball more because he try more then most. At Fiorentina he was the creative reference. It's harder to pass in the final part then the others. Whenever he tracks back he will do the simple passes but anyone trying the hard passes and dribbles will naturally have a higher rate of failures.

Berna's assist to Dybala is the kind of passes I expect him to make. Few others in our team would opt for that pass.

Nah, that was not the point imo. Morata had a similar habit here - holding and losing the ball in a situation where it was absolutely not necessary and then just staying there with no attempt win it back.

What an impressive 20 mins or so. Just bench Mandzukic permanently and we'll look a different team altogether.

It will all be forgotten soon. Time to move on from that necessity of keeping Mario on for his work rate. We see instantly the impact these new guys make when they are subbed on. With Matuidi we can forgo that defensive necessity that seems to be the only reason we keep playing mario on the wing. Would much rather see him as a striker.

Watched it a couple more times , not sure it was a pass or was he just trying to beat his man and knocked it too hard. Cuz even dybala was a bit surprised and had to cover ground to get to the ball.

I did. All of it can be taught. Mario can't suddenly learn pace with the ball or taking men on. You can teach the other guys to track back and work harder on the flanks to fill the void. Bern is tall, and offers aerial prowess too. Again, we gain defensively with Mario but not offensively. We gain offensively with the other guys and can teach them on the defensive side of things.

We can't keep trying to attack from one side, its too easy to defend against.

Yeah, most of us want to see Berna and Costa to play together but there is one big problem for Max Allegri - they are too offensive. From the start of the season they probably played 50 minutes between them. Only some injury of Mandzukic and Cuadrado will change that.
They're fucking wingers, defending is not a priority. I don't understand this defensive duty bulls hit for players like Berna or Costa who can offer a lot in attack, of course players like Mandzu or Cuadrado track back and defend to make up what their game lacks.
