One of the things I hate about Juve
and about Lippi as a tacitican is that he doesn't want to win all the games
He is too economical
knowing that only a miracle will get Basel through
Juve fields a semi strong squad
making also sure to avoid suspension for the quarter final
Now Sure this is good for the quarter final
But It is bad for the pride of the fans
and also probably for the teams confidence
I mean how fun can it be to go play a game knowing the objective is not to win but to avoid getting booked..........

Yes we were crap, but who cares! I mean we have a more important match infront of us and besides I kind of sympathized with Basel today, not in the way that I wished for them to beat us with a 4 goal difference, but to win with the smallest advantage as possible, because the crowd in the stadium was great and they might not get a chance soon to do what they did this season 
We were a mess, which is not really that surprizing as it doesn't come often that we play with a line-up like this. Why I don't want Iuliano in defence was a perfect example today! :fero: He's sooo sloppy. He was guilty for the 1st Basel goal and almost scored an autogoal in the 2nd half! The defence kind of held Basel back, but a better and more experienced team would bang tons of goals into our net
Salas actually looked a bit better. Nothing earth-moving, but better than the last time I saw him. He and DP worked-up a nice action in the last minutes of the game, but DP was not accurate enough. After DP got in Salas moved back and it looked like Nedved and DP are our "puntas" :undecide:
Zenoni showed nothing new and others were just too quiet to comment. No, wait, Gigi deserves to be mentioned! Made some very good saves today!

A performance like this probably causes the Team to lose some of the future fans it could have recruited

Del Piero made his comeback in Switzerland after six weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
“I would have played Del Piero a bit earlier had I not been forced into two substitutions for injuries,” revealed Lippi.
“Lilian Thuram also told us of a slight muscular problem so I wanted to wait and make sure. He played 25 minutes and did well.”
The draw for the quarters will be made on Friday and Juve will meet Milan, Barcelona or the winner of the very tight Group B.

I agree with what Nina said. This game was of very little importance to us, and after the way we have played in our last couple of games a rest was well deserved.
And as for losing fans because of this performance, I have to disagree. Look at how Man Utd played today? They were run over by the same Depor team that we beat last week, and I'm sure the true United fans knew why it happened, as should the true Juventus friends.

The problem is a great team should be an example for the rest of the world
If he would have put on a show like against Depor or even like the one against Basel at the Delle Alpi.
The players of Basel would of left the pitch knowing they had been outdone by their superiors.
That they had been beaten by a great team.
And I am sure many of them would see that defeat as more memorable then this

Some Journalists would even argue that Juve had the Strongest starting 11 to ever set foot on a football pitch.
Teams would lose against us... dropping points was as uncommon as getting Red Cards....
Recently I read some journalist writting "Juventus is the only italian team that has no passion". They subsitute pragmatism and rationale for passion. She said I instantly wrote a pretty angry email to her telling her how wrong she was....
It is days like this I begin to see her point.......

Congratulations. You deserved to go through, even today I always had the impression there was way more potential in your team than it showed (which isn't suprising, comparing the financial situation of the two teams) and it had the situation under control in every single moment (well... at least the situation in the group table).
I'm very happy with our CL season anyway, and in a few years' (or even months') time nobody'll ask how we could beat Italy's leader, so I'm gonna enjoy this moment anyway.

Iuliano just hope we do not have to rely on him as he is hopeless, he only looks good in a 3 man defence where Montero and Ferrara help him out for Juve and Netsa and Canna helped him out in euro2000
Montero to be honest did not really notice him that much
Thuram was his normal good self slight worry is that i saw him holding his hamstrings
Tudor really should never be allowed to play in m/f but we all keep saying that
Tacchinardi best player for juve and took his goal very well
Zambrotta nothing special, alwyas taking more touches than necessary as normal
Nedved again tireless display but no inspiration

Well, yes,to some degree I agree with you. But I think if we try our best for this match, we may lose another important match ahead of us because Milan didn't exert great strength at all in recent matches, maybe we will lose more prospective fans in that match then. Look at Milan and Man U, actually it is hard to find a team which will still play at full split when they've already been thru. And it seems to be the last match in CL we can rest. I think in later matches juve will not play like this any more.
Look forward to Milan VS Juve!!! If we can win milan then we will not need to worry about serie A too much any more!!! ^_^
