You surely remember all the hugely important goals Quagliarella has scored for us? The incredible way he played when he arrived here, only to see his magnificent run cut short by the desastrous injury of his. And even after this predicament, which most players don't even manage to overcome ever again (Isla, even Vidal is still struggling) he went on to become our most important player in our CL campaigns. Had Matri faced the same injury, he'd still be in hospital or Serie C ,and I rate Matri. Quagliarella stands in the sad tradition of Del Piero or Ronaldo, great players whose true potential never quite got reached due to despicable knee injuries.

Without Quags, we wouldn't have made it out of the CL group in 2012/13. Without Quags, we wouldn't even have stood a chance to make it out of the group until the last matchday in 2013/14.

This goal alone trumps everything Matri has ever achieved in his life.

Still... the stats prove my point. Quags choked against the top sides in Serie A. 4 goals against the top 7 teams in 4 years. While Matri had 12 goals in 2.5 years against those same 7 top teams.

I'll give Quags his awesome CL play for us. That really was awesome and necessary for our run in 2012/13.

But Matri contributed twice as much to those first two scudettos as Quags did, with goals against all the top teams.
