This guy was a gem for us.

Now the question is: will he be great again when he recovers? We've come to a point where a player with great potential comes as a pretty big risk if he steps on a lower level when he comes back.

The second question is: Are both him and Matri supposed to be bought? Surely, both of them have shown how can they benefit the team and how we can rely on them. Still, I can't see us buying both of them. If we do, then we should forget about Neymar (actually, any other 'good' striker we've been linked with) and co. that's for sure. Around 25-30mln should be drained from our budget if we decide to sign both, which is a lot really, considering the other holes we have in the club. Let's not forget that we're looking to keep Aquilani which is another 12mln at least. 60% of budget might be splashed on those 3 players but we'll stay at this level. I don't know for others but Pepe could easily stay too. Getting rid of Amauri and Iaquinta would help but I'm not sure we'd get much for those two, especially the injury prone Iaquinta who's not even preforming good this season, bar the injuries.

He'll be good for us a 3rd striker. I prefer Matri as our goalscorer and if we're going to play a 4-4-2 next season I'd like to see a new SS. I just don't see Matri and Quag up front giving us a Scudetto.

This is why we will buy a new SS. We can't guarantee Quag will return to full potential again.

We won't get both. Matri is the one we should be getting and let Quag go home. Sign a world beater like Neymar and Matri himself will step his game up further. Like Suns said, Matri and Quag won't get us a schudetto but Neymar and Matri might.

If we do, and you might be right that we will, then hopefully with this injury we get some kind of discount because that might be a very unlucky situation we find ourselves in. A broken toy that we can't return...with or without receipt.

Sorry, but: Matri, Quag (& Aqua) > Neymar.

I'd rather take a gamble on a god damn LW and call Giovinco home than get a WC SS. Maybe it's utopia dreaming with Hazard, but he alongside Seba, Quag or Aqua would provide us a team that Neymar wouldn't. We would be tactically stronger regardless the coach we'd get (since the coach uses a four man defence). Plus, rely on Neymar that never had an european experience to comeback to the top is just madness. Sanchez is the only one that could make me think twice but still, I'd rather have a great LW and a team with many options.

A great SS is the confirmation that we'll stick with the 4-4-2... and probably Del Neri.

Agreed on all points, mr flamez...we really could be not far off having a decent squad if we added some real quality to the left wing, left fullback and right full back positions. And the potential is there for us to have cover for all three of those positions. Giovinco and a LW, De ceglie and a more accomplished LB, Sorensen backing up a decent RB. (pepe can provide cover for both wings, but mainly the RW for krasic)

I don't think that anyone is fully certain of how much of this summer's budget will be consumed by taking up the options on Matri, quags, aquilani and pepe...

quag- 4.5m PAID...2m wages... purchase option: 10.5m to pay over three years...3.5m this summer.
matri- 2.5m paid in the form of our remaining half of Ariuado's registration...purchase option: 15.5m to pay over three years...5.16m this summer
aquilani- No Loan fee paid...e3.3m wages...purchase option E16m, in three installments...5.33m this summer
    pepe- 2.5m PAID...wages e1.5m...purchase option 7.5m in three installments...2.5m this summer

(all figures in EUROS...unsure about Matri's wage with us, though his cagliari contract was/is 0.55m)
approximately 16.5m this summer. to sign the above four players outright.
Perhaps the quag price can be negogiated down a little, due to his injury, but that won't make a substantial difference to the 3.5m we pay for him this summer.
Aquilani's price seems perhaps a stumbling block of sorts, as liverpool have no reason to accept a discounted price...why would they?? he has taken part in more matches in one season than for many years, been a mainstay of our midfield, back in the national team, and he wants to stay in italy. I very much like having a true playmaker in midfield, and i like alberto, but...his form has been quite poor since christmas, but then again, so has the form of everyone, other than Melo...so a difficult decision lies ahead.
Matri MUSt be signed...and will be. Cagliari wouldn't have let him go at such a stage in the transfer window, without an assurance that they would get the 15.5m over the coming years. Selling your best striker on the last day of the window??? they know they will get paid...
pepe i want us to sign also...2.5m installments are far from huge, and he has done well for us. A useful squad player who always gives his all.

    without any discounts. 16.5m.
now our sales should be...Amauri (2-5m fee...+ his huge wage of 4.2m off our accounts), momo (3-6m), iaquinta (executed), Manninger, Tiago (2-5m), Martinez (5-8m), grygera (1-2m), Grosso (0-1m)...plus the various co-ownerships such as Giovinco...lanzafame...plus others.

our sales alone could easily come to 16.5m...leaving us with an unknown but surely at least 10-30m, in light of recent seasons, to spend on a LB, RB and LW...

Be honest. How many times have you seen Neymar play.

More than ten games, at least. Last year I was a fan of Brasileirao coz of Corinthians and Santos.

But what's your point? That he's damn good? Yeah, he is damn good but we can find a player who could provide us a better team with lesser risks. You never know how many time Neymar will need to be accostumed to the european football. Could be one game but could also be one season. Rely (just) on him to reach our goals isn't too wise.

I don't think we need a SS for this summer if we buy Aquilani and Quagliarella. Specially if we change our coach. Why buy a nice LW (when we have none) and a great SS (when we'll have one certainly)? Buying just a great LW would save us money and we wouldn't be dependent of that player to choose one tactic (4-4-2). Of course Neymar can play in different tactics but imo he's much better in a two forwards system.

    Yeah, I said that.

South american market is a peculiar one. Normally the players from there need to accostumate and then make their biggest jump. If a scudetto challenger team wants to buy one, that team will need to have good players and don't put the guy drastically as their indispensable player. Even with lower ambitions teams it doesn't work like that...
