What's wrong with supporting another national team when it's not playing against yours Andy? My national team doesn't stand a chance in big tournaments. Moreover, many of Italian players are my favorite football players so when I watch them playing, I normally cheer for them. What's wrong with this?

Because it makes no sense, IMO. I have no ties to Germany except for ancestry, so I don't see any reason to support or like the Germans. When I see people like Pitbull support the "Azurri" through his profile yet doesn't have anything about Latvia in there, it's pretty obvious what's going on.

You know I totally agree with you when these people support other national teams, you know with buying Italian flags, pretending to be Italian, trying speaking the language, or feeling themselves as Italians (all because of football)etc.. That's so retarded.

But there is nothing wrong to like/support a national team because of their football, people love Brazilian football for example, Holland's and even Italy's. Not everyone is patriotic, I don't like it when politics or patriotism is involved with sports, it's always sport, a game an entertainment, a business industry, not a nationalism, nor a tradition. I will always look at it that way.

Well, I honestly don't buy this philosophy of "it's Iranian, so I've got to love it" thing. That aside, this is sports Andy. I love the US basketball team because I love those terrific players. I love Azzurri because my favorite players are playing there. I enjoy watching Phelps and Bolt even though they don't bring me (and my country) any medals/pride. But I like them because they're great, they're enjoyable to watch. I like them and I cheer for them. There's nothing wrong with this to be honest.

Oh and I thought you were one of those who supported Amauri to play for the Azzurri. Weren't you the one who was making fun of the "Italian blood" bs? And, Amauri is not Italian.

They put their heads against the ball, they put their lives on their matches whenever it comes to their national team. They were one of my favorite teams [] in the Euros only because of their brave and proud way of playing. What makes the World Cup the most important event in the sports is exactly these traditions and stuff.

But why should you deprive yourself of taking part in this pompous festival when you're Maldivian for example? It's easy. Pick a side you like the most and feel yourself a part of them for a short time
