What mistakes did he make? I thought Canna was good today. Egypt had basically one real chance, and they buried it.

Italy definitely should have won that game - all due respect to the Egyptians, who were solid. Egypt's goalie was absolutely phenomenal.

Cannavaro learns of granddad's death at Confed Cup

Fabio Cannavaro's grandfather died Thursday and the Italy captain was given the news after he and his teammates lost to Egypt 1-0 in the Confederations Cup.

Cannavaro, who needs to make only two more appearances for Italy to break Paolo Maldini's national team record, left Ellis Park with his head low and tears in his eyes.

"He just got a call right now telling him that his grandfather died," Italy team spokesman Diego Antenozio said.

It wasn't clear if the Italy captain would return home or stay for Sunday's Group B match against Brazil, which could send the world champions through to the semifinals.

"We don't know at this point," Antenozio said.

Sure, you have to accept that life isn't forever and at this age death isn't far away.

But it's still a person you love and from what I've heard the death of his Grandpa came pretty unexpected. Maybe they were vey close, who knows. And hearing upon it when you're far away from your family and directy after a match when you still have to walk all the way through the mixed zone surely doesn't help.

Italian families can be very close and I know it will kill me when my Grandpa passes away as we live just a few miles from eachother and see him at least twice a week. And there is no need for stupid comments like that Etvin. So he cant mourn for a family member? And he isnt with his family so it makes it harder
