My colleagues who watched the first match with me last week went home early today and they refused to watch the match with anyone. Even together and they are both Arsenal fans.

Well, losing 1-0 away is not the most re-assuring of results. We have to win by a 2 goal margin against Man Utd, who have not conceded away in the CL for 4 consecutive games. Add to that, Arsene has gone insane with his weird tactics lately and the fact 96% of our teams are chokers who buckle under pressure.

but the whole defense was terrible,so......our forwards have struggled for goals this season but if we are to look at del piero we can slag him off as much as we want as he is the only player that we are looking at that has not scored? forget that the midfield is failing to supply the forward lne, forget that the backline is porous, we are simply looking at one player and he is not winning us every game

I see your line. But lets say Milan are purchasing Alex. And the moment Alex isn't performing you'll automatically hear Milan fans not wanting this deal because they don't see him as a good sign so long he's not doing what he's expected to do.

That's the same case with us, we're seeing one weak Cannavaro and personally I'm not judging him only for the Madrid-Barca game, I've said it even before this big game, the man can't give a lot. We have to realize this fact.

If Arsenal start the game with full power from the very first second, aggressiveness and hunger, taking the ball to Manchester no matter how, trying to create havoc they can do it. If they take a cautious approach the Manchester defensive machine will become harder and harder to penetrate as the minutes pass by.

I hear ya mate. I personally hope we take the game to them, and i hope Arsene doesn't use his weird experimental tactics and play everybody in their position. I don't want to see Diaby on the wing, i don't want to see Van Persie on the left, i don't want to see Cesc played further up-field behind the striker and i dont want to see Nasri played as a Dm.

For once i want to see everybody playing in his favored position, is that too much to ask Arsene?:xfinger:

Like i said, its a Cannavaro thread, and people around here don't like the guy for obvious reasons. Make a Metzielder thread, tell people Juve want to sign him and then watch what happens when he has a performance like the last one.

If we are linked to a player we tend to focus on his performance. The whole Real Madrid team sucking isn't going to make Canna a hero. All am trying to say is that personally i feel it's a waste of money to pay Canna for a year or maybe two while we could invest that money in grooming a good young defender.

aye i guess i just getting pissed at the sheer idiocy of some members here, i think he may be a good influence for some of teh younger defenders and could be a decent short term signing but i am not overly happy about his return. that said, it is as bad as the fuck succo crowd, folk are already cursing him for not signing|Diego as Bayern are now linked with him and manure with Ribery......we were NEVER in the running anyway but any excuse to have a go with some folk

he could also be the perfect man to help Giorgio polish off the rough edges in his game, Chiellini is too young to lead the backline and maybe relieving him of the pressure could eb beneficial, then make him a coach after the 1 season.

You may have a point there, i guess am just tired of these stop gap measures. They tend to be costly & then we are thrown right back into the same quagmire.

So you think that Grygera, Molinaro and Chiellini have learnt nothing this year, this hasn't made them stronger because we are not winning and keeping clean sheets?

No but i believe that their potential is so limited, that they will never become a part of a competitive team, they are dragging us down along with them and the greater percentage of mediocre players we have in our starter eleven, the more chances we have to fail...

You learn much more when you make mistakes, winning is easy. We don't have experienced champions in defence so we can't expect to have a great defence. Next year throw in Cannavaro and another years experience for those guys (not Grygera, never going to be top quality in my opinion) and that is how players build as individuals and a unit. Perhaps Molinaro or the rest will never be good enough but his improvement has been clear to see.

I would accept some sacrifices/risks, if they would benefit us on the future.
For ex the far more potential DC, than Moli has the potential to become a great Zambro like full back, we ought to give him more playing time. Giovinco likewise.
But there is no point of wasting our time with Grygera and Molinaro, they are only meant to be subs, at best...
We should started watching a plan of replacing them with competitive starters by now, the five year plan has reached a critical moment!

I agree with you about avoiding our defensive issues, completely. All I am saying is that it is a bit early to say that the board are making the same mistake this mercato, surely they can see what we can, and that is that the defensive unit needs improving in terms of quality? Give it a bit of time.

It is not early if you follow the pattern, last year when we failed to bring Mellberg at x-mas and secured his signature for this year. It was clear for me that we are not buying anyone else and we will keep using Grygera, Legro and Molinaro as starters. our board is rather predictable... I hope that they will surprise us though.
But i de hope to see the investment first, not the quick fix that will negate its necessity...we have seen that before and we should know better by now...

If Cannavaro isn't the only reinforcement in defense I don't see where the problem is.Cannavaro and a good RB will do wonders for our defense.

But what happens if he is?? Every year we follow the same pattern, we buy an expensive forward, a useless DM/CM and a free defender.
Cassano, an Assamoah like DM/CM from Italy and Cannavaro are around the corner...
Let alone our urgent need of Neddy's successor...
Once again, our priorities in defense are ignored!
