We play the high line because of our low quality defenders.

Until one month ago we had a very good defensive record and that was thanks to the high line as it helped to prevent the defenders being exposed one-on-one very often.
do you think that he would change it for cannavaro?

what can i say, i am a big teddybear

@ badass-wonderfeul, have been missing your enlightening views on all things calcio
you forgot to do that in the sarcasm font

So with Cannavaro's signing, chances are we won't purchase another CB for another year or two unless we can get somebody good on the cheap. That will probably mean we'll be searching for a replacement during the summer of Cantstandya's retirement.

But then we might also have to replace Legrottaglie and Mellberg as well, unless they want to pull a Canna themselves.

It shouldn't be thaaat bad now.We have Ariaudo who seems promising and there's Criscito who can take play there.

cannavaro only solves half our defensive problems, much like if zapata were to come, the problem lies in that high line that ranieri likes to deploy. Ranieri needs the book - the art of italian defending thrown at his head and change that system, because till he does, our defensive frailties will always be exposed nomatter who we have at the back, it may work in spain, but in italy? no way. As for cannavaro himself, its at least a step in the right direction in terms of upping our quality in comparison to knezevic and mellberg and will be influential to our youngsters. as for our mercato ive said it time and time again, all great teams are built from the back, the fact our board have done it the otherway around further shows their incompetance, and im starting to believe that people such as buffon and Lippi are playing more of a role in our transfers than the brainless BOD. If we can now focus on Diego/silva/Motta i will be a very happy person this summer

Playing a high line is not always linked with low quality defenders. Lippi used to play a high line in his second stint and if am not mistaken capello as well, we didn't have as much issues.

I think its linked more with the amount of pressure you want to put on the opposition's midfield more than anything along with the points you brought up about quality as our defenders aren't the best one on one. The problem we had recently is that our midfield didn't do a very good job of covering the defense, thus exposing them to situations which was more than usual and it crumbled.

I am never convinced of anything I read in the papers, if I am against your constant bashing it does not mean in any way that I am supporting the board.
Fair point, but you are not the only who defends our board's action, others did and used your argumentation. I just wouldnt like to see this argumentation been abused like that, so i had to set the line we shouldnt cross.
I agree with your perspective of signing Canna, as Knezevic's replacement, but i have reasons to believe that this is not the case...
If this wasnt the case, i believe you also agree with me, that his acquisition is not in our interest.
If you say that we will end up seventh and I laugh it out it does not mean in any way that I expect the team to win the CL and the Scudetto. If I laugh out your concerns it does not mean that I have my feet up, relaxed and sure about the team.
I never said that we will rank 7th, never!! i just said that we will rank 3-5 when everybody else were dreaming of titles.
Just for the reality check, i also hope for the best, but i cannot ignore reality...
So ppl do, even if you dont do it, so dont take everything personal, you know i love you Jack:beer: .

My guess is that Palermo don't want to sell Kjaer yet and the same with other clubs(Dortmund, Napoli...). We could buy Bellusci of Ascoli buy I wouldn't trust him to start for us yet. Could we have signed Marquez, Ivanovic, Gallas...? That's possible but I guess the teams want a lot for them and the wages are too high for Juve.

There are high lines and there are high lines.

We are currently playing and incredibly high risk game by playing a really high line, but that risk is still less than actually making our defenders have to defend as individuals.

That is certainly part of the reason for the high line, but I don't think it is the main reason in Juve's case.

The defence has also, unsurprisingly, looked less secure since Sissoko got injured. Without him, we can't press the midfield so much and it is easier for the opposition to play balls in behind the defence and expose our high line.

We could afford them, if we were not saving everything for just another expensive forward...
