santacrocce is much better than the overrated barzagli and gamberini and maybe better than aging cannavaro.

He is indeed better than all those players you listed, at least based on potential. Barzagli never convinced me, Gamberini is solid but nothing special and not good enough for Juve I feel, whereas Canna is

He is mediocre. Shouldn't be in the national squad. Even though Italy won the world cup in 2006 this generation is inferior to the 1990s, esp the defence. Just compare Maldini, Cannavaro, Nesta, Costacurta, Ferrara to Barzagli and Gamberini. Only Buffon is great and Chiellini has potential but has to improve.
Lippi thinks he can win the world cup with mediocre players but he won't. Needs to bring Ale back and somehow convince Nesta to return.

I don't see Santacroce has being a great like Canna/Maldini were, at least not yet. Even Chiellini has a lot to learn as he still makes a ton of mistakes. I do remember Maldini complimenting Criscito before.
