I'm just going to switch off BBC World for a minute and dream back to the 1990s when we still had hope for peace after the collapse of communism (am I the only one who misses it?). I just found a cd with the backstreet boys, janet jackson, touch and go, another level, the spice girls, 2 unlimited, five, alanis morisette, madonna, TLC and some other super cheesy stuff as well as a photo album with highschool pictures

It's gold :touched::D

I was born the same year the berlin wall fell, so I don't remember much about the early 90s at least.. Though I like Cameo (90s funk group.. :D)

I remember the Berlin wall coming down and watching it on the box. My brother (6 years younger than I) calls me a dinosaur for it.

I don't know what you mean by "blame the west" thing,or if you meant "anti-west",but you are very wrong my friend,am not that at all,I always hated the place I lived (middle east),am not east-admirer myself..but with my posts I don't think I will change the way you are thinking,because you are patriotic (not sure if I picked the right word),with "you would do or accept anything for your country even if it was right or wrong" attitude.well that makes you blind..just think for a moment, why would arabs and muslims do such things,suicide bombs etc.. is it because it's cool thing to do?do they have other options than that?they are patriotic,they would do anything for their country,like I said even if it was right or wrong..you can't expect them to fight with their little army,against the likes of Usa Britain and others..wouldn't that be fool step,that way they will lose their country so easily..
Half of that isn't even true. I would not support my country in absolutely obliterating several countries in Africa, or take hostages simply to kill them without knowing for sure they are actual terrorists. But the thing is, whenever something you do affects millions of people, not everybody will benefit and there will always be people who are upset with you. It is impossible to please everybody, however in each campaign we have conducted we have always helped out at least one group of people. Even though Iraq was still not a good choice overall, we still were able to get rid of Saddam and at least try to set up a new life for people of Iraq. However it is very difficult to do that when suicide bombers blow shit up everyday thinking this is a war against Islam. It's not. They know it's a war against terrorism, and that is one they just adore to fight.

btw you said terorsim in Islam world was even before Iranian extremists took several US citizens hostage in Tehran during the mid 80's.. so true,the roots of that is far away from that,that's because of the Israel/Palestine situation.. If Usa didn't support Israel,I don't think these problems would occur today..
Ohh boohoo, we supported Israel. In reality it's their "promised land" anyway. I'm sick of hearing that excuse for terror.

And no, there would still be terrorism today. Terrorists would focus on other targets or whoever else would hold the key to power.

And who said Andy and I will never agree on anything in politics? I suppose that was my assumption but lookie here.

Andy, just ask yourself now. How are we being misled by our leaders for their personal gains? How do we shoot ourselves in the foot regularly as we buy into their campaign promises and watch them pass laws and introduce regulations that do us harm?
The most misleading event I can think of for my country was obviously the War on Iraq in which we supposedly thought Saddam had WMD's. Now if that was an intelligence mistake or information only put out there to mislead us, I don't know. As for laws that harm me, I'm not sure if I can think of any here in the US. And I do want to say how lucky and privledged I am to live in this country..

*drumroll* right again. you are on a roll, Andy. Terrorism will continue but we can do something about how widespread it is. According to "60 minutes" (take that as you will), most Palestine kids want to grow to become suicide bombers because that is the "star" figure in their culture right now. It used to be actors, musicians, now it's being a martyr. The people who blow themselves up killing Israeli soldiers are very happy because they know it will make their family proud and it will make other families admire the fact that they raised a suicide bomber. They also leave a video tape before they "go" where they say goodbye to the family, how happy they are right in this moment just before it happens and so on.
Hmm, that just sounds like a sick culture of death to me. Blowing yourself up in the name of a false religious crusade could quite possibly be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Stop blaming the muslim extremists, stop blaming the western world. Its BOTH their faults. For all you know next there'll be another war declared against a country in the middle east, and then they retaliate and bomb Paris or something. The cycle just goes on.

Sally, couldnt of said it better.

Its simple everyone has to have a long hard look at their own countries before blaming anyone else.

And the worst part is I dont think these things will ever end. Wars have existed then, now and in the future. Gandhi's a genius: "there is not enough room in this world to feed everyone's greed".
