Hey, actually, the best way to solve the problem is give Europe less spots. That way, there wouldn't be as much to fight over.
Or put some of the teams, that aren't European, in the Asian qualies.

My suggestion is to put Israel in the Asian groups where they can play against Iran, Syria or Jordan. That way there will be less competition in Europe and no fighting in Asia. :D

Also, countries that have most, or all, of their territory outside Europe shouldn't play in Europe.

Goodbye Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Israel and Cyprus.

Sounds great to me.

Seriously, it would solve some problems. Maybe create one big one, but I don't care about that.

but that would mean less moneys :shifty:

another solution imo, would be to balkanize, no pun intended, europe into 3-4 smaller groups
Perhaps.

there are 4 directions to go by ;)
I know, but look at the Eastern European group and compare it to the Western European or the Southern European one.

You'll get Germany, Netherlands and France in the western group and Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Balkans in the southern group.

The easterners will have Russia as the main favorite.

the thing UEFA is too powerful, and that in itself is the reason why you ll never see the level of other continents go up. I am sure if we really sat down we could come up with interesting match-ups. and by direction i meant in one instance go strictly north south and in other go east west.

i would scramble it :)....based on the top team's chart, doing 12 groups, and choosing like ucl style..so the first 12 teams will be brazil, argentina, italia, france..etc...in the 2nd pot would be turkey, greece, portugal and so on...

The European qualifying system is of course flawed, changing may help in some ways but would of course lead to further flaws, I think the best option would be to first do what Alen said and move several countries into a different continental federation and out of European qualifying, then and this part should be done regardless of whatever else find a new better method for the FIFA world rankings. So much depends upon those being fair and accurate and they clearly are neither.

I was joking actually :D

It's impossible to move Israel to the Asian groups.
The Russians and the Turks will never accept to play in Asia. Actually, they might accept their NTs to play in the Asian qualifications because that way their chances to play at the world cup will be bigger, but on the other hand their clubs won't be able to play in the Champions league and their NTs won't play at the EURO.

Also, UEFA would certainly like to keep a 150 million and a 75 million country (two countries where lots of money are being invested in football) in her ranks.

Oh my bad, well it seemed like it could have been a good idea even if not that exact situation UEFA qualifying might benefit from losing a few countries, but that is a good point on how those countries would lose out on the CL

I suggest one huge Europe league for qualification (42 teams that is?) like South America's system and play home and away every Sunday. That will be fun :D

And it is for many countries outside of Europe, actually for many of those countries it is a chance that doesn't repeat itself for a very long time. Europeans get multiple chances because of the several spots they have. Europe produces the better teams and that is fair enough, but when you try to get them more spots just because some teams are on the wrong end of the cycle then its just unfair.

This is the world cup and should include the best teams from every region and that is how simple it should be. The beauty of the world cup is give those smaller teams the chance to show themselves and to give their country a huge amount of pride. It won't produce the best football but at least it will give us something global. Your Trinidads , Slovakias, Kuwaits, UAEs etc is what makes the World Cup different. You want to see the best teams from a region, what the Euro, African cup or whatever , thats why they are there. The aim is to develop the game worldwide, swag mentioned the economic aspect to the country and the players and that is important.

I wonder how much the smaller countries in Europe would have developed if there were lesser seats for Europe.

The system in Europe isn't the best and needs to be changed. The teams in the groups aren't very well distributed but many have already mentioned that its not entirely a problem with the system but rather those teams failed to step up ( even Portugal, Denmark were 23rd on the world in 2007 while portugal was in the top 10 and Sweden were 15 or something).

That's all there is to it really.

As for the European qualifications, there will always be complaints. Sure, some groups are way stronger than others, but I believe that also makes it interesting, because this way some outsiders always manage to make it to the WC.

Can somebody pelase tell me when football stopped being about merit???

The seeding of the European spots for a second time is fucking ridiculous, it's a travesty against fair play and chance. UEFA and FIFA are a bag of arsebandits.

No offence to anyoen in Russia or France etc. but you have no right to get an 'easier' draw just becuase of your viewership numbers if you fail to qualify.
