One thing is clear, our subs cant be relied upon to put solid performances in. Isla almost had a free role down the right and barely had anything to show for it, he was decent but he had so much free space he should have done a lot of damage to them. Our defence was all over the place without Chiellini and Barzagli.

Not an easy game to analyse.

Juve played an okay first half, but there was always a sloppiness to some of the play and that gradually spread until about an hour in when the game opened up and became generally chaotic.

Juve set out to play a nice sensible game where they allowed Trabzon the ball in safe areas and then moved quickly when it was won back. That worked largely because Trabzon, while a relatively tidy side, didn't seem to have any way to up the tempo or do anything penetrative. They were also allowing loads of space for Isla since their left winger wasn't working back properly.

Though there were major issues with poor passing from Ogbonna, Bonucci and Pirlo, Juve were in control of the game and could easily have been 4-0 up at half time.

The lax play gradually spread through the team early in the second half and contributed to a really hoorible 15-20 of play when nothing was happening but Juve looked likely to shoot themselves in the foot.

Was interesting that Conte not only allowed the game to become open, but contributed to it with the changes he made. I've no major issue with allowing the game to open up and for Juve to back themselves, but they do lack experience of how to play in those situations and I think it was a mistake for Conte to leave Pirlo on when the structure disappeared from the game. The openness of the game meant that it wasn't difficult to play telling passes and that Pirlo's lack of pace was bound to leave him and Juve exposed. If Pirlo was to remain on, one of the other three midfielders should have been placed in a fairly orthodox defensive-midfield role to give some protection to the defence.

Juve's decision-making in the final third was appalling when the game was stretched and there were easy attacking chances. Thought Pogba was particularly guilty of trying to play unnecessarily difficult passes when there were simple passes on to players in dangerous positions.

Anyway, it's a decent enough result for Juve and it was interesting to see how Conte handled the game.

It maybe was hard to get the right decision so fast during the play but you can see that the ball is over the line, there are no other options.it's OVER the line.
The right decision was made, to the ref.

Let's go over the chances:

Tevez - slightly more than a half chance, missed
Osvaldo - great chance, scored
Isla - very good chance, missed
Tevez - good chance, missed
Tevez - good-very good chance, missed
Osvaldo - good chance, missed
Pogba - decent chance, missed
Pogba - great chance, scored

Agree, disagree?

I'd expect at least one of those chances, probably two to have been a goal, and an early 2-0 makes the game much easier.
At least this one had to be scored.was great chance.
Should be 3-0 at least, but with today's performance of everyone,we'll take the 2-0 gladly.

Didn't get to see the game because of school, but THANK FUCK. Now don't screw it up in the second leg.

Also, can't wait until I get to watch Chelsea rip Gala apart.
