UEFA CUP was actually an important competition before 00s , we won a very strong uefa cup 3 times , i think europa league should count as different trophy than uefa cup, i mean we won this trophy when meant something , we beat 2nd or 3rd place from Germany, France, England or 2nd place from Portugal , for example in 1993 we beat a very good psg team who was beating real madrid 4-1 before that , we beat BVB who was 2nd in bundesliga one year before , benfica who was ucl finalist not long before also, now the most important or the best teams are in champions league .
UEFA Cup in some seasons was even stronger than CL, because you had more clubs from the top 4-5 leagues playing there and on those one offs where a non-top club wins the league (like Leicester last season), you get all or most the top clubs from one country in the UEFA Cup. now its just a bunch of bad teams from mediocre leagues against 5th-7th placed teams from the top leagues

There were a lot more stronger teams, from all around Europe, back then. Today, you have "experts" telling us how smaller teams have developed and got the chance to win against everyone. I call bs. There was a lot more teams challenging the big sides 15-20 ago.

yes, in the 80s and 90s you had teams like Red Star Belgrade and Steaua (twice) reaching the CL final and even winning it, Gotteborg, Dundee, Videoton in UEFA Cup finals etc, not to mention semifinals and quarterfinals. nowadays if youre not a top club from the top 5 leagues, your best bet is passing the group in CL occasionally, or passing 2 rounds in the EL if you get an easy path

United played:

Rof32: 8th in Ligue 1
Rof16: 6th in Russian League
QF: 1st in Belgian League
SF: 13th in La Liga
F: 2nd in Dutch League

What a joke of a competition.

And some of those redcafe retards think they had a better season than Chelsea.

St Ettiene, Rostov, Anderlecht and Celta Vigo and then a final against a glorified youth team in Ajax... poverty teams all the way through.

In 13/14 we played Trabzonspor, Fiorentina, Lyon and Benfica (and would have been a final against Sevilla) this was a much harder run and I don't think this United team would have won it either.

I think what they did was right. They shouldnt celebrate as if nothing happened. They paid respect to the victims and acknowledged that they had a good game. What would you have him say?
Oh come on, it's camera show from mourinho. As I said earlier this trophy was the sympathy trophy. It's unfortunate that this incident played in favour to united where even Ajax fans won't be too disappointed in losing because at the end it's just a game. Mourinho would have felt more butt hurt had they lost using the sympathy vote. So doesn't matter which way you look at it.

Well yeah its unlikely that he is sincere but the general mood in the city is gloomy and he resonated that even if on the inside he is probably thinking "YUSSSS". Had he celebrated like crazy (the way he would have celebrated if no attack happened) then everyone would have slaughtered him for lack of sensitivity.
