Germans curse bad luck

Dietmar Hamann was left to rue Germany's misfortune as his side were held 1-1 by Holland in Group D.
The Germans dominated the match in Porto only to concede a stunning late leveller to Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"We had the Dutch where we wanted them and then out of the blue came the equaliser - it was a great finish," Hamann told BBC Sport.

"I think we should have won. We were the better side. We can call ourselves a little bit unlucky."

And coach Rudi Voeller agreed with his midfielder: "It's a bit annoying. We should have added another one after 1-0 but nevertheless compliments to my team.

"We can live with it even if it was a little bit bitter at the end. We didn't lose anything but we didn't win anything either."

Germany captain and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn said his side had played their best match for a long time.

"But you must maintain such a level for the full 90 minutes and the Dutch built up real pressure and they got their goal," Kahn said.

"This group will remain open until the last minute."

Germany did a very good game..they could have won the game, but a defence mistake cost them the game.

Netherlands could do better than that

I really liked how the stadium looked... Half orange and half white although there were more Holland supporters

I hope Holland can get to quarterfinals (at least)

Another little thing I liked at this eve were the two flags needled on Dutch jerseys - very nice symbol!!!
Actually, I noticed that the Czech players had the Latvian flag on their jerseys, and probably the other way around too :)

We won't make it to the next round though - there's no way we can beat the Czechs and the team just doesn't perform. They haven't performed well since France98. No chance for us. None whatsoever. :(
I don't see why you say that. I agree that they haven't performed since 98, but if they draw with the Czechs and beat Latvia, and if everyone else manages to draw, the table could very well finish like this:

Czech R 5
Holland 5
Germany 5
Latvia 2

Now Holland should (in theory) be able to beat Latvia by a great margin than 1 goal, so the Dutch have still got a chance :) Now if they lost tonight, it might be a completely different story, but keep your head up mate ;)

Inject some Seerdorf magic in the midfield and it will be hard to handle the dutch. The Germans looked shaky in the last 15 minutes but I must admit they are an improved lot.

Not the result the majority of us hoped for, but not a major tragedy either. I still believe that Holland will go through and wish them good luck! :)

Hup Holland!

One of the funniest moments for me was when the commentator made a remark: "Bastian Schweinsteiger.... could his name be more German?"

:D He's good though

And no gray - we're not going through for the simple reason that Advocaat refuses to put up a decent line-up because he feels its too attacking minded when yet that's exactly where our strength lies.

In the mean time the man has successfully drained all co-operation and smoothness from the team in the last two years. That can't be fixed in a week's time. Its too late.

Damn right he is. I was worried every time he got the ball... if he just learned to release the ball a bit earlier, he could have had 2 or 3 assists in that game :scared:

:irritate: you're probably right :(

Amongst other tactical decisions, I don't really agree with Davids' substitution. Even though I desperately wanted to see Sneijder on the field, Davids was the only thing keeping Ballack out of the match. As soon as he went off, Germany looked so much more dangerous. I probably would have even preferred Cocu off, though that probably wasn't gonna happen.

You know, when we saw Sneijder on the pitch my dad and I agreed: "He will have taken Cocu off. Bloody worthless the entire match"

Then we noticed Davids was gone :wth:

He'll keep doing this. He made the same mistakes twice against the Czechs in qualification and he'll make it again come Saturday. Johan Cruijff's public warnings disregarded. :lazy:
