Luis Enrique, showing mutual respect, seems like a nice guy.

“Happy for what I saw, the level was incredible between two quality teams who tried to play good football. I think it was a spectacle for afficionados of the sport.
“I congratulate Italy and hope they can put in another fine performance in the Final, trying to win the trophy.
“I have no regrets. Everyone has to do his job and do all that he can. Italy started with extraordinary intensity, so did we, it was like two sportscars racing each other, head-to-head, and some of the best football we’ve seen in the Euros.”
Luis Enrique seemed to completely stump Roberto Mancini by using a False 9, leaving both Alvaro Morata and Gerard Moreno on the bench.
“I saw Chiellini and Bonucci deal with Lukaku and thought maybe it’s better to take away a reference point, add another body in midfield. It was a good plan, we overcame the Italy press and played really well.
“It won’t be good for the English, but yes, I will cheer on Italy in the Final.”
Luis Enrique has always been class. The Spanish are not very arrogant, despite the tremendous success they have had this century. England on the other hand…….

We have two mods from England, don't we? Or maybe someone else that I don't know. I'm just curious who they will root for between Italy vs England when they meet in the final?
They will get to celebrate either way.

Just like we have Americans who like to boast about their 100 different heritages but will cheer for the team that wins :baus:

Ground it out, we’re second best for most of the game but still found a way to win the game. A top team. The team spirit shown by this squad is the most I’ve seen from an international football in many years. Mancini and the lads have been incredible and I hope they can get the job done on Sunday.

Credit to Spain though. They have a bunch of unbelievably good younger players coming through like Pedri - what a star. I think they’ll be back amongst the favourites to win something in the next couple of tournaments. A much more likeable squad compared to their glory years.

Euro 2008 Spain were a very likeable team and enjoyable to watch. The late Aragones did top work with that team.

Spain became annoying and nauseating to watch when their dominance coincided with Barca/Guardiola era.

Yep, as soon as Alba and Busquets fuck off.

I'm English (consider myself British) with an Italian side of the family. Games between the two are not fun but tbh I don't feel like I can lose too much in a potential final.
The media surrounding England are annoying in some quarters, but if you understand Italian you would also find they do similar things, without as much delirious hope. England have barely won anything, this is all exciting for them.

Obviously a lot of people here associate England with the Premier League and its fans, but it's two completely different things - the PL is foreign, most of the players are, the majority of the fan presence online is. Others are from countries that the empire did something to 50 years before they were born, which is apparently relevant to a football match.

This England team isn't as unlikeable as many from the past. Every team has a spell where they do well, and for England to reach a WC semi and then at least that in a Euros is a big deal for the people in this current era. I understand that England winning something every 60 years is tough for people to swallow, but it might happen. They don't have much to cheer for so even the most anti-England person could understand it. These aren't all Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal fans, these are more the fans of Rotherham, Preston, Torquay and all the other small clubs1 and places who don't have much to cheer for. You only have to look at the flags at the games to see it.

On the Italian side there is also the Juve connection, with Chiellini's last hurrah at the front of it. And all the great work that Mancini has done. To go 33 games unbeaten, beat some top teams, and lose the final would be sore. But this format always suited England as soon as the schedule was laid out, and it turned into a miracle for them as the tournament progressed and bracket was made.

Denmark may still have their say. People blame the English for getting ahead of themselves but lots of neutrals already seem to see England in the final on probability.

fully agreed on Barella and Verratti being poor, I hope Loca gets to start the final in place of one of them. Chiesa deserves an 8 as well though, Italy didn't look like scoring anything without him tonight, if Berardi had a better shot he could've sealed the game after Chiesa set him up for 2:0.

I don't see a scenario in which England or Denmark will beat this Italian team. Maybe an early red for Italy.
Fatique.

England must have a lot of energy left considering that they haven't really been tested and only traveled for a single match. If they win; 6 of their 7 matches will have been on home turf.

Brazil-Argentina in Copa and potentially Italy-England in Euro

It's been a while since we've had two big finals like this in a long time in NT football.

Even CL has had mostly trash finals in recent years.

Milan/PSG
Napoli-Juve-Juve-Roma/Chelsea
Inter-PSG-Chelsea
Juve-Lazio-Napoli

Regularly used bench subs: Sassuolo, Torino, Sassuolo, Atalanta, Juve, Atalanta etc

All players are mostly home based.

If they go on to win it, hope this can serve as a huge upliftment of Italian football.

But what's more likely to happen is more Italian players will try adventures abroad.
