Is that what you took from the game? I didn't, Matri isn't quick or skilled like these forwards Prandelli chose. He chose some good players that will move around well and play the ball in every part of the pitch.

Italy gradually became lethargic as the game went on and the speed Spain introduced should have probably won it, but they were poor. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Barzagli comes back because Motta is hard to bench, as is De Rossi.

I've never seen a player get more sympathy from a referee than Iniesta does.
Umm no, read my earlier comments in this very same thread, I was thorougly impressed with Italy's performance (esp the first 60 mins) and I do feel the 3-5-2 is the way to go for the rest of the tournament.

I just feel that we should have taken a target man, a big strong physical guy who can hold the ball up, win headers and generally play as a refernce point. Matri would have been my choice, because if Balo continues like this the rest of the tournament,we look a little bit thin in the strikers department.

Anyway, good result and really good performance. If only Marchisio finished his chance earlier on, twas a top shelf run.

I wonder what was Prandelli's reason to keep Giach at the end tale of the game, and not fielding a proper LB? Spain frustrated the sh!t out of Italy's Left. that was like a freeway for them to create chance after chance.

I think he tried to win it. Rather than the point, a good performance was important. They already had that.

I hadn't read your previous posts, so yeah, we pretty much agree on the performance and the system

I was just impressed with the way that the forwards played, good movement, they got around the pitch and there was a mix of physicality and skill. It looks like that has been what Prandelli is aiming for since he created the Rossi-Cassano partnership. Balotelli adds more height and strength. I think he's got it right.

After this season and today, I think it's clear. Marchisio has developed into one of the best CM's in Europe. I'll go as far as saying, baring Iniesta and Xavi, there isn't a more complete midfielder in Europe.
Modric, Yaya Toure, Cesc Fabregas, Toni Kroos, Schweini. All much better midfielders than Marchisio.

Lets not take it too far.

Yes, he isn't as complete as Marchisio is and I'm sorry but Modric and Kroos?

Modric has been terrible this year, absolutely terrible.
