On the bright side, winning the EL would do wonders for our co-efficient.
Exactly.I'd be really pissed if he doesnt field strong enough teams in the EL.We should take this seriously atleast for this year with the final being in Turin and all.Whether or not we make it is another question but we need to show the intent atleast. The desire needs to be there.

And we know we need those stupid points. The more the better. I don't care about Italy but Juve. If we don't treat it seriously we'll be in pot 3 again which means harder group in CL next season.

He didn't even field the strongest team In the CL, you expect him to do it in the EL?

From financial point this competitions is basically poor. But we need to go as far as possible because of coefficients. Failing to win this competition might result in something like this in next years CL group:

Barcelona
Dortmund
Juventus
4th seed team

We are exactly the same as the Italian NT

We only play good if we face good teams, if we face mediocre teams we become mediocre.

Ridiculous.

This goes straight to knock-out phase now? Still some good teams in this competition who could definitely beat us in this format. I still don't expect us to really be going for it until the QF stage.

group? Isn't it play-offs from now on?

Not a single international trophy since 1996. We better fuckin take this seriously.
It should've been a reply to this:

The people saying that they don't care about Serie A or the coefficient, but only about Juve - one year if you finish fourth & just miss out on CL, I'm sure some of the people saying things like this will be thinking differently. I don't understand this short term mentality just because you're dominating the league now. Even if I were a Juve fan I would still be concerned about the future of Serie A & the lack of a winning mentality in Europe by Italian clubs overall.

There are four Italian teams in the EL now, which should mean there's great likelihood that one of them will win it, but not with the way most of them treat this competition at the moment.

Fiorentina always treat the EL/UEFA cup seriously (they reached the semi-finals in 2008) so I can see them try to win it, and they have the squad to do it. Benitez usually tries to win the EL but De Laurentiis doesn't seem to give a shit about it so we can't expect much from Napoli. Lazio is a mess at the moment so count them out as well. We should be able to win this if we take it seriously.

So, a Juve-Fiorentina final is potentially in the making :D

I still haven't forgiven Fiorentina for the semi-final failure in 08, even though everything worked out in the end.

Anyway, I think how the league goes between now and the spring will decided how seriously the teams take it.

Juve aren't going to risk not winning Serie A, so they probably need to have a decent lead in it before they'll really go for it (though Juve have the depth to see off a fair amount of teams while resting some players).

I doubt Fiorentina will risk missing out on a CL spot to focus on the EL (if it this year or next year that the rule change allowing the EL winners into the CL comes into force?), so they are the team I'd see least likely to really commit, as they'll probably be in a battle for the last CL spot.

Napoli are the ones that there may be the biggest chance of really having a go. I could see them, but the spring time, being several points behind Juve, but several points ahead of anyone else. That would give them the opportunity to focus more on the EL, and Benitez's record shows he will be inclined to try and win it if circumstances allow.

Lazio could be dangerous simply because they may well have nothing else to play for come the spring. No guarantee they'll still be a mess by then, but they may well be far enough behind in Serie A the the cups get almost their entire attention.

that can be explained by the lack of desire and concentration.
I wouldn't say desire because we sure knew how important our game with Gala is, Juve tend to screw up (just like Italy) when they're in a comfortable mode.
