Still, at least them going out nice and early will leave them free to concentrate on the league so they can put all their efforts into sneaking into a EL spot for next season...

Not true, the smaller countries like f.e. Belgian teams or Dutch teams do care.
If they manage to survive the group stages, they have actually made a profit by participating in the EL.
And just remember last season, a team like Chelsea was really happy to win that trophy.
They chop and change their squad every year, it's best if they don't even get into Europe.
I didn't see the game so don't know how they played, but by that scoreline I assume they blew a bunch of chances and the other team countered and was clinical.

I agree - the league is not 2-6 teams. The dept of the Italian league has always been strong and I think it will continue. If we look at the European competitions, then the teams are weak. Why? - cause financially the teams are so weak they can't buy players to compete.

I think Italy should try to look like Germans. Not so much money is being invested but focus is being put on developing youngesters, which is what Serie A really needs IMO.
I think Napoli was on a good path to become really strong (not so sure now with this revolution of Benitez). And now Fiorentina is doing well.
