With Sissoko, Poulsen and Chiellini, we would certainly win more 50/50 balls than Arsenal. Couldn't believe how pathetic they were in that facet of the game at the back. Missed tackles galore, too.

Disappointing match, for sure. I didn't really understand Bendtner coming on before Eduardo, and I would have liked to see Ade finish. When you're not putting any pressure on your opponent, the best opportunity to score is probably from set pieces, and Adebayor is great in the air. Every time I've watched him play, Bendtner has been crap. For me, Song gave the ball away too much, and Nasri was a fucking ghost.

Arsenal is missing some solid players (their defense is hurtin) and it showed, especially early, when they were very skittish. Almunia was awesome.

ManUre's goal was absolute rubbish, but in the end they were the better team by far, so it's hard to complain on that front. Really, this wasn't a terrible result by any means for Arsenal. Anybody get an injury update on Rio? He'd be a huge loss for the second leg...

Debatable

Correct :D
I beg to differ, the kid is 18 years old, he's being asked to play in a shit defense alongside some absolute disasters(Silvestre, Toure), he's being offered no protection from midfield (Diaby not tracking back to help him in defense) yet he did well enough taking the circumstances into consideration. He's still not ready yet, i don't believe he should be playing such important games as he obviously lacks in positioning, but that will come with experience. I believe the potential is there, but he's been thrown into the fray a bit too early.

It's very hard to make a prediction. Silvestre was also a kid when he started playing for Inter and i remember like it was yesterday how the commentator said back then how Silvestre has so much potential and talent.
As it turned out, he was nothing more but an average defender, never a world class.

Some kids show great talent even when they are young and you can say that they have big potential, but some are called "big potential" only because they are young.
For Gibbs ( i don't watch Arsenal much, but somehow i watched all the 4-5 matches he played lately) it's close to impossible for guys like me or you to say now if he has it or not. That's why i said that it's debatable.

One can't say that he won't make it either, simply because, as you said, he's part of a bad defense now and people shouldn't judge his potential by these matches he played in the last 2 weeks or so.

No i agree with you, i never said he would realize his potential, i just said that the potential is there, and that he did well taking all circumstances into consideration, not many 18 year old fullbacks can do that well against Ronaldo, that has to count for something.

But like i said before, its still too early for him to be playing for us, he's still a bit raw defensively, and unless he improves drastically in his positioning, he'll be just another wasted talent, that being said, its not like Clichy has been much better.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but in what case Germany could take that fourth spot in CL from Italy and how soon that could possibly happen in worst case scenario? Alen or someone?

I think France are actually ahead of Germany and as I know they're a long way off overtaking Italy.

Germany have decreased the gap on third-placed Italy in UEFA's five-year rankings.

The Bundesliga gained 0,250 points thanks to Hamburger SV's first leg win at Werder Bremen, having started the European season with eight teams. The same amount and an additional bonus for one final place will be added next week.

Italy to lose more points

The Bundesliga (12,312 points) already has more points than the Serie A (11.375) this season, and the gap will be decreased even more over the summer. Italy will lose 14.000 points from the 2004/05 season, Germany only 10.571. If Germany leapfrog Italy, the Bundesliga would be awarded an additional Champions League berth.

England on top

The English Premier League, which is still involved in the Champions League semis with three teams, is top of the rankings with 79.054 points. Spain follows with 73.766 points ahead of Italy (62.910) and Germany (56.320)

So they lose 3.5 points less from 2004./05., already is point ahead this season and may overcome the gap (6.5 points) if they win UEFA Cup this season. I understand this has nothing to do with next season, but when does this seasons terrible rankings count? :shifty:

Looks like Henry won't make it. He's injured.
Henry, Puyol, Marquez....this complicates things for Barca.

Will this be the excuse after Chelsea humiliates them on Wednesday?

The awful reffing in the first leg is excuse enough, Ballack shouldn't have stayed on the ptich for 90mins, just saying :shifty:
