You can have two destroyers and still have possession, create a lot and score a lot.
Milan did have Gattuso and Ambrosini in midfield the last time they won the CL.
Sure you can. But then they had Kaka and Pirlo to even it out within a different system. I'm just not a fan of the straight 4-4-2 with two DM's in center as it's too one dimensional.

Having two pure DMs in the centre is one dimensional and not the way we should play. This is why the Poulsen - Sissoko partnership never looked all that convincing apart from in two games.

A midfield with Marchisio, one of Momo/Poulsen and a hard working attack minded player like Hamsik suddenly looks much more balanced and dangerous, without the presence of a through and through playmaker.

This of course works best when the forwards are able to maintain possession, something which is the case in the current Juve where we have Del Piero, Amauri, Giovinco and Camoranesi.

There are more ways to have a creative team than having a playmaker in the middle of the park.

Ya but Milan had Seedorf, Kaka and Pirlo as well.
And good defense with Nesta in amazing form and Maldini played his last great season.

That's what i've been saying all along. If you secure the defense, starting from midfield, and if we have Giovinco and Camoranesi healthy and in good form, then we can allow ourselves Xabi. He'll be very helpful. In any other case, no thanks from me. He doesn't add that much in attack so i could sacrifice the defense.

And Andy, yes, Xabi can't defend well.

Barca don't have that much of a defense but they're not suffering.

But we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, because its really all about taste on this one. People like me and Andy we prefer having creative players in the center, you'd rather hard working midfielders who score goals. No way for either of us to convince the other then :)

Oh,i'm dying to see Barca vs Chelsea.
Unseen attacking talent against Essien, Terry, Ballack, Bosingwa, Carvalho and i'm especially interested how will they cope with Drogba, Lampard.

Until now i think that Barcelona suffered against good defensive teams like Juve, Liverpool, Manchester and Chelsea.
This year they play great but they are yet to play against a sound defensive team that can also score a lot.

One of us can say after that match "IN YOUR FACE, SUCKER!!!" :D

I'd consider Man Utd an attacking team.

But ya, one of us is going to stick it to the other :D

Liverpool
I can’t believe they thought they’ll do what we couldn’t do.

One big  for the company led by Denco that was convincing us how Chelsea aren’t a top team anymore and how we should be bitter for letting an “average team like Chelsea” to eliminate us. And of course, he was saying that Villareal would eliminate Chelsea.

Last but not least… let me quote this: “We should have paid 20m to Liverpool for Xabi Alonso”
WTF? We didn’t have and we didn’t need such profile of MC in our best years and we never had such a player until the summer of 2007 when we bought the ballerina.
Give me someone who bites, who dies on the pitch, I don’t want a primadonna.
He’s a good player but no-one in his right mind would pay more than 12-13m for him and Benitez was right when he wanted to get rid of him. (Which couldn’t be said about Sissoko).
Thanks Ranieri, or whoever was responsible, for not letting Liverpool to rip us off. We don’t need a player like Xabi Alonso. What we need much more is a Lampard type of MC.

Great job Chelsea.

before making rash judgements :D did you watch the game? alonso was the only player running around the whole game going after balls in both ends of the field he was BY FAR pool's best player

I don't think i said that he was bad tonight. I said that he certainly isn't a 20m worth investment and that i disagree with those who say that we should have given the money to Pool and buy him.
We didn't need him and we still don't need him. At least not as a priority signing.

The whole concept of football is to score goals. If you have the ball in possession, the other team won't be able to score. Sure, sometimes luring the opposition in deep for a counterattack works when you have 35% or so of possession, but you can't rely on the tactic all the time as you're playing with fire. A team needs more balance and the ability to adapt, as Greg said. A player such as Xabi is able to adapt to situations and do what needs to be done at a given time, something that players such as Poulsen and Sissoko are not as capable of. That's why we need a more balanced midfield instead of two destroyers in there.
Not even Emerson and Patty Viera could cope with a shift in the match if original tactics failed.

They also had Kaka and Pirlo. And Seedorf. AKA balance. 2 destroyers, and distributer/playmaker and an attacking midfielder.

You need a new RB and a Guus Hiddink.
