Bottom line, the comment was stupid and arrogant. He said it himself, "italy should be happy we are out of the champions league". He is probably trying to shut the italian media up as well with the comment. As in, "we lost the CL but we will still come home with some silverware at the end of the season." It will be a lot of pressure on the team considering how they have choked in the past.

fuck, finally the posting slowed down and I was able to catch up on the thread.
congrats Fred, glad arsenal went through!

I wish Liverpool was more english, but until they get the academy system sorted, it's not going to happen. The problem in england is that they simply don't train players the right way. the emphasis is much more on physique as opposed to technical skills and mental ability that the players that get the attention needed are those that develope sooner. They also insist on playing young children on full-size pitches with 11v11 sides, which in addition to giving a tremendous advantage to the quicker and stronger players, crucially decreases the number of touches a young player will get on the ball. Instead of being forced to play with the ball at their feet and think quickly, they simply hoof the ball around and use sheer athleticism to win. This of course means that young english players will not develope as well or as quickly, while french, italian, and spanish players play with smaller groups on smaller fields, giving them FAR more touches of the ball, which of course is what they should be doing. Among the many negative results, players who develope later but are more talented simply get left by the wayside for stronger, faster players who will never develope the technique or brain for top-level football. Fabregas and Messi could never have developed in England, and imagine if rooney had been developed in argentina, brasil, france, spain, or italy? then he might have turned in to all that he was hyped as becoming

one, it's putting unnecessary pressure on the team; two it's actually switching all the weight off his shoulders as in " as far as i am concerned the league is ours, unless those fuckers fuck up "; finally it shows weakness to say it after a painful defeat as if he needs to reassure himself
and four: it will make the neutrals think he kept his word when in trueth they clinch that title with the help of referees.

Hate to break it bro, but he tried doing it vs Sampdoria in Coppa and failed after his harsh press conference one day before. He also tried doing it the same vs Man Utd and obviously failed.

This protecting his team thing isn't working with Inter anymore.

Just depends how you interpret it, I guess.

For the avoidance of doubt, I was stating what he, presumably, was trying to do.

I don't think it was a clever thing to say.

The only thing better than beating Man Utd in the final might be to beat Chelsea in the final so Ballack would lose a 3rd CL final, and this one to his old team.

:D
both would be sweet, but i would have thought avenging the fluke of 1999 would be the sweeter :agree:

Inter was a complete embarassment to Italian football tonight...

Roma were hard-done, but who didnt see that coming ??

I thought at least 1 Italian team would pull through.....I cant wait to hear all the English commentators and EPL lovers with the comments :melayyanandmessi:

btw- Liverpool looked the best of any of the teams I watched (I didnt see Barca play)...although they did spank a Real team in a season of crisis
