lampard tried to fill ballack's shoes with chelsea opting for the constant long balls to defuse the pool tactic of the whole team going back to defend carvalho's run was inspiring and Drogba was a monster today.
Finally, in all honesty i really dont see how shevchenko can possibly succeed in england. The man has no pace, in both clear countre attacks he was beaten both times by cole. I would be very surprised if Jose starts him the next leg.

Vidic is out for the season.Manchester United will probably shape up like this at the back :

Neville-Ferdinand-Brown-Heinze

Its not exactly a rock solid defense,as Ferdinand can be very erratic at times, and Brown isnt the greatest defender in the world. But its still a better back 4 than they had in the first leg IMO.
vidic isn't out for the season. and the only player that may be back for the milan game is ferdinand and that is a big maybe

Vidic is apparently back in training already. But it would be crazy to line him up vs Milan after a month away from football.

In my opinion, this season's Lampard hasn't been the one of the previous couple of seasons. Also, he was better before the arrival of Essien, he always succeeded to give an impression of him being present on every part on pitch. Maybe the presence of both Makalele and Essien has comforted him a lot in terms of defending. But with the arrival of Ballack, I think that he lost his leading role in Chelsea's midfield. I think that minimising Lampard's role isn't related to Ballack being a leader himself more than being a tactical modification from Mourinho.

Back to today's match, all Chelsea's player were very motivated and they did their job perfectly. And as you said, Carvalho was stunning and Drogba was a real monster, every single attack by Chelsea were always signed by Drogba. His absence would affect Chelsea greatly, on contrary of Shevchenko, whose absence can be compensated by Kalou. I don't want to forget Obi Mikel Jones, every time I see him I try to figure out is he really just 20 years old, he is one of the best defensive midfielders compared to others of the same age. He could be a Makelele's replacement on the long run.

As for Liverpool, they succeeded to possess the ball in the second half hoping for an equaliser and they're more dangerous, despite creating a very few chances. Their apparent point of weakness was the absence of the harmony between the defenders, also they're affected by Finnan's absence (I don't know whether he was suspended or injured). Mascherano failed to convince me and I do think that Sissoko as a defensive midfielder would have been more beneficial and consistent. Xabi Alonso was a little bit slow more than his norm and the wingers weren't that effective especially Zenden, whom I reckon wasn't up to scratch. Gerrard simply was the best player in the Red's squad and one of the best in the match as a whole.

Another thing here, I applaud both goalkeepers; Reina and Cech for their classy performance today.

personally i don't see how Kaka & C.Ronaldo can be compared against each other...

C.Ronaldo had Giggs... Rooney etc... playin' alongside him... supportin' him... makin' runs... etc...

while Kaka has Gilardino standin' there like an idiot (when he isn't invisible)... and slow lazy Seedorf lendin' a hand at rare occassions...

imagine what it would be like if Kaka had better support from better quality teammates like Nedved & Trezeguet... he might not have scored 2 goals... but his team would be on the winnin' side for sure...

Playing Gerrard on the right is a complete waste. He needs to be in the middle of the field where he's one of the best in the world. With him out of position and Alonso far from his best Liverpool were unable to create good chances.

Carvalho and Drogba were the best players on the pitch today and Chelsea had a lot more balance with Joe Cole in there as opposed to Ballack. Shevchenko struggled and it was hard to watch cuz I like the guy but Kalou and SWP are better options for Mourinho.

It'll be interesting to see how Jose sets out his team for the 2nd leg.

:agree:

You seem to know more than Mourinho and Benitez do about their own players.

I read some of your posts asking some members to grow up and stop calling Inter binter? and now you're calling Milan disgusting just because they're Juve's rivals? very nice....

Anyway, I don't think Milan is disgusting, a club with their history record and with finest players passing through san siro i wouldnt really call them disgusting. They're a great club with a great football and no one can deny that.
and the funny thing is that he keep on making fun of them for calling inter names, yet he's doing that but with milan.

As a Juve fan, i really respect milan as an opponent and rival, though i dont feel the same towards Inter...Milan are class, inter are not.
Quite frankly, you said exactly what I do believe in.

Spot on, Rab. :pint:

I found this from my personal archieve:

Interviewer:

"Is Kaka your spiritual heir?"

Del Piero:

"I agree. First of all because he's very good. Not only good: exceptionally good. He whines little, he does his best and always tries to smile".

Gerrard was emasculated by Benitez with his field instructions. Drogba was able to do so much with the ball using his body today, as he has for much of the season, that it was definitely worth watching. Carvalho's run was perfect to set up the lone goal.

But I was surprised that Paolo Ferreira came off the bench to start in this one, and as much pressure as they put down the left wing he really stood up to the challenge. I've long been a Ferreira disser, but today he perhaps put in one of his best defensive matches of his career. Very few crosses got past him, and he made some smart moves to deflect the ball to the touch line or upfield.

Sheva was worthless. Not Gilardino worthless, but approaching that. The only thing he added to the match was running with the ball upfield so he could quickly lose it or fall on his face in traffic.

And this is definitely not last season's Lampard -- that's for sure.

That´s a good obeservation actually but I don´t blame all our miseries on Milan and I don´t open a new thread for bashing Milan every week. Everyone has his opinion, to me Milan is a disgusting football club, to you is Inter.

Mark is to Milan what Badass and Turk are to Inter. The only thing is that he respects them enough to call them by their name:p
Exactly.

Oh please spare me, how many times did you hear me make fun of Milan? Twice maybe? A lot of members do that every day to Inter. And once again, Milan is a class club to you maybe, to me they are not class at all.

I dun understand as Juventini, y we should attack one another so often...
we can disagree with each other but we need to watch over our usage of language and attitude.
y we argue one another over other clubs beside Juventus is beyong me..
