Yea, I would have given him a yellow for sure, it was a nasty tackle. But I can't fault the ref when he made that second head lunge. Judgement call. If he wasn't such a douche he might have got away with the yellow.

then you clearly don't watch mutch football. playing the ball 5 metres past your opponent and running after it is not really football skill. this can be done by any athlete that is faster by a margin than his opponent. playing 8 clueless crosses straight into the opponent in a crowded penalty box before getting lucky with a pass that reaches it target is not that big of an achievement either.
