Show me a better record. 0.5+ goals per game is a great record for any player that is not Ronaldo or Messi.
Consider that he got that record while being in and out of the team because of injuries and not playing as the main striker.
Van Persie is a world class striker and no one can argue about that. Any Arsenal fan trying to label him as a one season wonder, is just too bitter to remember how good Persie was.
goals/time played can be a very misleading statistic. Take Huntelaar for example - by all accounts he failed to make an impact in the big teams for which he played yet his goal average was second to none in both Real and Milan ... I think he may have had the best goals/time played ratio in all of serie A the year he played for Milan even if I don't have the stats in front of me right now (Alen, where are you when I need you

).
to take it to the extreme - imagine a player comes in for the last 10 or so min of the game. In that case scoring 5-6 goals will be more than enough to make his stats look amazing but that doesn't mean he is anything more than a good option to have on the bench.
All in all, it takes a lot more than good average stats to make a player a WC one and RVP has, so far, shown he could be called that only over the span of a season, a season and a half ... before that he was nothing but a player with great potential, which it seemed was taking him forever to realize.
