Redknapp condemns Adebayor chants

http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/premierleague/story/harry-redknapp-arsenal-fans-emmanuel-adebayor-chants-100211

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has condemned the Arsenal fans who taunted Emmanuel Adebayor during Sunday's north London derby with chants mocking the deadly gun attack last year on his Togo team.

Three people died when gunmen attacked Togo's team bus at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in January 2010, leading to captain Adebayor retiring from international football.

Referring to the victims of the attack, a section of the visiting Arsenal fans chanted ''it should have been you'' to Adebayor. The striker left Arsenal in 2009 to join Manchester City, which has loaned him to archrival Tottenham.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says the chanting was ''disgusting.''

Redknapp added: ''How do you chant something like that to someone?''

Absolutely unacceptable, a shame really how terrible people can be sometimes. I wouldn't be complaining if they punished us hard for this..

So why are these terrible fans, classless, horrible and ugly but our fans are heroes when they sing that Balotelli chant?

Arsenal fans are actually chanting about an incident where there was a shootout and people died, an incident that Adebayor was in, and could have died in himself. Its no laughing matter and its nothing to chant about, chanting about it is tasteless, disgusting and disgraceful. I don't think the Balotelli chants can be compared to this, unless theres something i'm missing about the Balotelli chants?

The Arsenal fans are just trying to get a rise out of Adebayor. Sure it's terrible to bring up a tragedy and say that Adebayor should have perished too, but it's really no different than the Balotelli chants. The intent is the same, the fans are merely trying to rattle the individual, not actually hoping for death, which they find to be hilarious. Not to say that's okay, it is lame as shit. But to say that there is a difference between the two is also lame.

Balotelli is still seen as a vile human by those groups of people that sing against him, and they're moronic enough to probably be the type to set fire to seats, and take part in racial abuse of the player getting the club fined. I don't see a difference.

Something encouraging happened last week (I think), when a small section of Lazio fans were singing racist songs against Acquah, and the rest of the stadium started booing them and telling them to shut up.

That's exactly right. The most influential against this sort of thing are other fans, who always outnumber the chanting idiots and should go out of their way to quell that shit.

Saying the Balotelli chants were racist is like saying Totti kicked him down because Totti is a racist.
The "blacks can't be Italian" was definitely based on race but the "jump and he dies chant" definitely wasn't. However, I doubt the people chanting were actually racists. It's more about trying to annoy and disturb the player. But there are other ways to do that which make the fans seem less like imbeciles.
