Liverpool are on the verge of signing Luke Young from Villa. 2.5M.
What? :wth:

He's not even good enough to start for Aston Villa. What a random signing, one that would not be an upgrade over what they have. My guess is that they're getting him because he's versatile enough to play both rightback and leftback, no other explanation for it.

ROFL @ Liverpool getting orgasmic over Young, Wilson, Cole and Jova
Thats like somebody saying

ROFL @ Juventus getting orgasmic over Pepe, Martinez, and Bonucci rofl:

Your club signing them does not necessarily mean the fans are getting orgasmic over them.

Sol Campbell to Newcastle (after Celtic really thought they were getting him. :howler:).

Arsenal to move on to try and get Mertesacker, apparently.

Personally i wanted Campbell to stay on, even as fourth choice defender. But if his departure means going after Mertesacker, then maybe its a blessing in disguise!

I like Mertesacker, but I'm not sure he would suit Arsenal.

With Arsenal attacking a lot, a great deal of what the CBs need to do is deal with counter attacks, which is tough for a guy like Mertesacker who isn't very mobile.

He would, at least, stop Arsenal getting bullied by teams playing long ball, though.

One of our main problems is dealing with Drogba-like strikers, we struggle against these strikers and they keep scoring goals against us, Drogba is a prime example and Crouch when played against us does a lot of damage too. If Mertesacker were to start(which isn't guaranteed anyway) our defense will have to play a little deeper than they're used to. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it might also mean less possession for us.

I think Hodgson's bringing him in as back up for both positions and to make up an English player on the 25 man roster (have to have 8).

As far as I know we're still looking to bring in Figeroa as the starter once Insua's transfer is finalized.
