I'm just discussing, going no where.

It's either he's too expensive or Tottenham don't want to sell from what you're saying. I'd go with third option... he's not yet ready to make it for a big team.
At this point Tottenham would reject a 50m offer for him or Bale, whereas at the end of the season, depending on Tottenham's results, a 30m one would be seriously considered.

No, that was Diego. ;)

I still think Modric is not even half the player Diego is. Each to his own. You probably find my statement funny I find yours hilarious. No hard feelings.

Diego just like all other Juve squad of last year failed, but it happens to the best so no real shame in Diego not performing in his first Serie A season.

Juventus > Tottenham. Diego made it to a big team, Modric made it and still in an average team. ;)

It's no secret you don't rate Modric much. We're all wrong at some things.

Diego, I know you love him but the sooner you accept the fact he's a star for a mid-table club, the better. He's been on the European stage for 6 years, he's still not the player you want him to be. He's always taking a step back it seems, from Porto to Werder, from Juventus to Wolfsburg..I wonder in which club he'll flop next.

Modric has barely 2.5 years in EPL and with each year he's improving, worth more and more.

Even when I had great expectations of Diego and I hadn't watched enough of Modric, I wouldn't have agreed with that. Now, after seeing Diego play for our team for a whole season, I even find that statement rather funny. Diego was not up for playing for a big club when he joined us and he is not now either. It was always a mystery for me why Bayern (who always go for Werder's stars) never wanted Diego in their team. He is mentally and physically weak to play in the first level and he will never up for the task I'm afraid.

I got to see more of Modric lately and he is head and shoulders above Diego in terms of footballing abilities. Having him at Juve would be a dream of mine.

Just one question, if Modric is that good like few claim why hasn't any of the big teams approached him yet? I never hear or read that this big X team welling to offer Tottenham this amount of money for Modric. Or this GM is flying to London for some Modric negotiation.

None of the Italians teams seem interested in him. None of the Spanish big ones, and none in England except Tottenham themselves.
Spurs have a lot of cash and so Modric would cost a stupid amount of money (see Berbatov costing £30m and even Carrick costing £18m).

They also have ambitions to grow as a club. They are planning a new stadium and will be doing all they can do get in the CL as often as they can.

We have a player who is levels above Modric though in Aquilani.
:disagree:

Fit and on form, both are on a similar level.

Given how little Aquilani has played in the last couple of years, Modric has to be considered superior at the moment.

Always count on you as the voice of reason.

They're actually quite similar players, as both tend to put others in play and make the team tick. But Aquilani has a much better shot, though Modric is more versatile.

Would definitely be a tough pick between the two.

They are more or less same ballpark but I would take Modric over him (even if more of a fan of Aquilani) because Modric is directly more creative playmaker (final decisive passes etc) while still being the more hardworking of the too oddly enough. While aquilani is more transistional player, smooths things up and quite more box to box approach. Pretty similar, though bit more cutting edge for Modric (when he is consistent or playing in proper position).

Fair enough.

I was just arguing against Nick's claim that:

We have a player who is levels above Modric though in Aquilani.

Signing for Juventus is never a step back.

Did you say the same thing about Pavel after his first year? What about Zidane? Edgar Davids? Very weak argument of you to judge a player when the whole squad were nothing but bunch of old men uncapable of playing Football.

Just pointing out that Melo had (IMO) a much worse season than Diego so I don't think you can judge how well he could have done here off of last year when everybody sucked.

I can digest someone rating Modric, each to his own, but judging Diego after this disastrous season that we had (and not to mention he wasn't as awful as others) is pretty silly.

I guess after Melo's first season with us, things should be looking like this now Ambrosini > Melo, or to be more accurate Melo < Montolivio.

For sure and he was by far our most impressive player this last pre-season so I don't know why he is being written off. We sold him just as he got a chance to fit himself into a working system.
