Indeed, it only takes a couple disruptions to create a catastrophe. If Pompey cannot make good on their obligations to other clubs specifically, that might set off a chain reaction of bankruptcies because one thing you cannot hide is cash flow. If another club is expecting to be paid and ends up not being paid, they might not be able to finance their own obligations to other clubs. And that's when the wheels come off.

Cash flow is the key. Watch that.

I don't think they owe much to other teams. The League paid some teams what they were due by deducting it from TV money Portsmouth are due to get.

It's not clear who all the debts are due to. They are £60-70m in debt depending on what you read. It's a tax bill of about £12m that has got publicity, but I don't know if the other cash is owed to banks or individuals.

The certainly owe previous owners some money.

£32m is owed to Gaydamak, £12-18m HMRC depending where you read, the rest to clubs such as Udinese and Lens (the Premier League made sure its clubs were paid first, they are good like that) as well as agents fees.

baines is good.. i've been watching him for a couple of years now. Not sure what he'd do on the big stage...

maybe CARRAGHER decides to play
Baines is really good going forward. But defensively there have always been question marks on him. All the good wingers in the league have given him a horrid time the past few seasons.

Complete financial meltdown of the league might be Liverpool's best chance at catching Manchester and Chelsea.
Why when Liverpool would be melting with them? The only 2 clubs in the Premier League who are debt free are Manchester City and Chelsea neither will melt down until the owners pull out.

£50m profit over the last couple of years for Arsenal.

Do you see why myself and others wonder if Wenger is spending all the cash that is made available to him, Fred?
I understand, and i see your point. We seem to be doing better financially than most English clubs.

But for one Arsene has always been against a club spending more than they make, and most of the money we make goes to paying off the debts we have. Another thing that makes me doubt that he has a lot of money to spend is the fact that Wenger used to spend money before the move to the Emirates. I mean ya, he was never the type to make 30-40M signings. But he did make a few 14-22M signings here and there.

But Arsenal aren't just not signing top players, they are selling ones that they have.

Arsenal are probably running at a profit from their players dealings over the last five years or so.

Ya, we do tend to have a net profit from transfer dealings in the past few years. That is the only thing that really annoys me. If you're going to sell players, at least buy adequate replacements for them. Or else just don't sell first team players.
