Well the fact he is upset to such an extent shows there was no intention, unfortunately in England players are taught to go in hard and fair as children and that is encouraged, so if you make a mistake it may cause a problem. It obviously depends on where it impacts the other player, it has to be particularly unlucky to end up like that.

Where do you draw the line though? No hard tackles? What do you define as hard? Only being able to jump for sliding tackles from the side?

It was just clumsy and mistimed.

He lunges in somewhat, but it looks like an honest attempt to play the ball. It's not like he when in with a straight leg and with studs showing.

Still, it is inkeeping with the overly aggressive approach that is allowed (encouraged?) in the EPL amongst the lower teams.

Even in Scotland the ref's are very picky about overly aggressive challenges. An Aberdeen player got booked today for a lunging tackle when he cleanly took the ball and was nowhere near the man (the sort of tackle that no one would have batted an eye lid at 20 years ago), so I don't know why England refuses to conform with the rest of Europe.

That is the key question really.

Just ban Shawcross from the game for life. Fabregas reaction to Pulis was class *shhhhhhhhh*.

:D

You really think so?

I absolutely loved it, but if a player did the same to Arsene i would be pissed and would not accept it. So i'd have to say Cesc shouldn't have done that. But i'm glad he did(if that makes sense)

Pulis is a classless thug anyway. If anything he'll be patting Shawcross on the back for what he did. Stoke as a club and as a fanbase are utterly disgusting.

Immature more like. Pulis is extremely irritating but was just defending his player, Wenger is one of the most biased when it comes to this. Fabregas is a great player but it's not the first time his lack of class has shown.

I have to grudgingly agree with this.

Because, and I quote millions of people who love ultra aggressive, 4-4-2, long ball football, "It's a man's game".

A comment that is usually followed by another comment questioning the sexual preferences of all modern footballers and wistfully remembering the days when Norman 'Bites yer legs' Hunter would get nothing more than a stern ticking off for permanently maiming an opposing player.

This is why Fabregas's reaction was class.

Why?

Far worse tackles are put in than that one every other week. It was just unfortunate that this one caused serious damage.
Then you set a president. It may of been unfortunate but he went in with studs showing, that is a sign of clear intent. He had time to pull out but he did not.

You don't start by clamping down on clumsy challenges.

You have to accept it will take a long time to change attitudes and start by making sure every challenge when there is serious malice gets a red card and a significant ban.

It would be better for a half decent Juve side. And a large win on the Euro Lotto, I could buy them a winger then.

How's it hanging (I'm going retro)?
Busy with life here, Chief. Can't wait for summer as this winter is killing me.

And credit to you for seeing the problem in our width. Last summer you were saying how we should get a winger as the lack of width is going to hurt us. You know your stuff (aside from wanting Del Piero to not take free kicks :) )

well we didn't which was why Bianconero wanted us to get a winger.

If he had awesome fullbacks then it's a no brainer that our flank play would be much better.

Fantastic news today. Too bad I missed the match.

City stun Chelsea as Bridge gets revenge on Terry
by Ian Winrow
9 hours, 27 minutes ago

LONDON (AFP) - Wayne Bridge got a measure of revenge over John Terry as Carlos Tevez and Craig Bellamy both struck twice to secure a 4-2 victory for Manchester City over nine-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

...

The pair's meeting before kick-off saw Bridge ignore Terry's offer of an outstretched hand before City fought back after falling behind to Frank Lampard's goal to dash Chelsea's hopes of extending their lead at the top of the table.

...

The way Tevez paraded Bridge in front of the visiting supporters after clinching the win made it clear that the other City players also considered this to be a grudge match.

...

Bridge announced last week he was not available for selection for future England squads because he felt his position was "untenable". And England coach Fabio Capello was in the stand to see what he would be missing as well as check on the form of a number of his players.
BLOOOOM!

Well done, City. +REP to Tevez and Bridge for taking down that pathetic choker Terry. Every single thing that now happens to the guy is highlighted and his scandal is brought back to light, and it's glorious. Seeing Tevez and Bridge own that moron is very well deserved and I applaud the City players for fighting for Bridge. Those gentleman are helping our cause in South Africa, and so is Terry with his own idiocy.

This is just another reason to hope England is knocked out first round come June. As if there wasn't enough reason already.

No, we should have gotten better fullbacks because of our weakness on the wings and due to our probable shift in formation since Diego was probably going to join.
