I love seeing Liverpool at the top of the table! never had that experience before. I don't think we'll win it this year, but it should be much closer than years before. and Voronin looks to be an excellent aquisition. Torres has lots of promise, although his finishing isn't exactly clinical.
arsenal are looking good, and if it wasn't for lehman...They have such a high-scoring midfield it's ridiculous! and I think with a bit more time eduardo will become more and more effective.
Ironically thats exactly what we were lacking last season:p

I think Newcastle could be the dark horses this time.I dont expect them to challenge for the title, but i think they'd be in running for a CL spot come the end of the season.
i still didnt get the chance to watch them to be honest, but their squad does look strong

Armani Signs For Chelsea

Chelsea's latest big-money signing is Italian fashion guru Giorgio Armani, who has designed their official club suits.

Chelsea have been accused in some quarters of lacking a little class since Roman Abramovich banrolled their elevation to football's top table. But the club based on London's fashionable Kings Road are not lacking in the style department.

Now famed Italian fashion guru Giorgio Armani has linked up with the Premiership giants to design their official club suits.

In an interview with Chelsea's official club magaine, Mr Armani explains:

“I believe footballers are today’s new style leaders. Unlike others in the public arena, footballers are unique in the fact that they have to show an acute combination of mental and physical discipline which makes them genuinely heroic.”

As a distillation of what makes the likes of Lamps, JT, SWeeP and Sheva tick, that's almost poetic.

And Armani adds another insight: “If they feel good about how they look when they arrive for a game, that will boost their overall confidence as they prepare to take to the field.”

The press release that announced Chelsea's bid to win the sartorial premier league title described Blues' manager Jose Mourinhoin Hollywood terms, saying:

"The heart-throb Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho, a long-time Armani enthusiast, is rumoured to have taken time out of his busy schedule to personally oversee every sketch and fabric."

It contined: "Armani says of Mourinho: 'He has a great sense of style and I am pleased that he appreciates my designs and chooses to wear them'."

And to underline that this is no fleeting liaison or, indeed, passing fashion fad, the Director’s Suite at Stamford Bridge has also been redesigned by the Piacenza-born style guru and famed Inter Milan fan, and is to be renamed The Armani Lounge in his honour.

I think we have to best shot to win the league in the last 5 years, especially with Veronin playing so well. With Rafa's rotation system our players will hopefully stay fresh enough to keep winning.

Chelsea and Man Utd are looking surprisingly ho-hum too. Could really open up a bit this year, though Arsenal are falling further away, I think.

Newcastle haven't done anything yet - they've had a good squad for years, and the current one is paper thin in places.

I'd say the fans are the best in the world, but I am biased. Also I'd like to note that Man City and Everton have been playing well. While I don't think they will challenge for the title its nice to see a little more competition in the Premiership.

The squad quality is the same, but Big Sam will do Newcastle a lot of good.I think he's a very good choice for manager.Souness and Roeder were simply not good enough for a club of Newcastle's stature IMO.I think Jose is growing tired of Chelsea,or something along those lines.I dont see the same passion in him that was pretty obvious during the last 3 seasons, which is one of the reasons why i think Chelsea wont have a good season this time around.Anything less than a double for them would be a dissapointment IMHO.

The over enthusiasam of Liverpool and Manchester United fans pisses me off,but then again,i wont mind that when it comes to Juventus fans.So i guess im biased too.City and Everton have done well, but i dont think either of them will challenge for the CL spot.Newcastle are one club that i think will cause a fair bit of panic to the top 4.

it will be interesting to see how Owen's form continues...as for arsenal, it's really a question of their midfield scoring, which they're doing, that eduardo finishes the moves off, and that van persie plays the way he is capable of and stays injury-free. then they could challenge.

Hiddink is being paid by RA to manage the Russian NT. Them meeting is nothing of note, especially with the Russians having played England the other night. (The Russians lost 3-0, you may recall).

I call shenanigans. This is the usual football rumour merde.

Premier League - Weekend team news

The Premier League comes back with a bang after the international break, featuring a Saturday lunchtime triple header.

Read on for brief news from all the weekend's games, or click the links on the right for predicted line-ups, injury news and key players.

SATURDAY

Everton v Manchester United - 12pm

Tim Howard seems set to miss an encounter against his old club through injury, with Stefan Wessels ready to deputise in the Everton goal. United have Cristiano Ronaldo back after suspension, while Wayne Rooney may make a cameo appearance from the bench.

Portsmouth v Liverpool - 12.45pm

Harry Redknapp has a massive squad to choose from and plenty of options, especially in midfield. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez may shuffle his pack with a Champions League game against Porto on Tuesday. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres could be rested.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - 1.30pm

Spurs have Aaron Lennon, Darren Bent and Michael Dawson back at full fitness, leaving Ledley King as their only major absentee. The Gunners will continue with Manuel Almunia in goal after Jens Lehmann's elbow injury flared up last weekend.

Birmingham City v Bolton Wanderers - 3pm

Two relegation-threatened sides face off without major injury worries. The difference between the two could lie up front, where the away side boast extra quality with Nicolas Anelka and El-Hadji Diouf facing off against Cameron Jerome and Mikkel Forssell.

Sunderland v Reading - 3pm

Wearsiders' defender Greg Halford is back from suspension and in line to play against his former club. However, Andy Cole and Kieran Richardson are the latest names on a lengthy Sunderland injury list. Liam Rosenior could make his Reading debut.

West Ham v Middlesbrough - 3pm

Scott Parker and Christian Dailly are pushing for inclusion for the Hammers after coming through a reserve game in midweek, but neither is expected to start. Fredrik Ljungberg could also return. Gary O'Neil should be handed a debut on the right side of the Boro midfield.

Wigan Athletic v Fulham - 3pm

The home side are without the suspended Kevin Kilbane and injured Luis Valencia, while they welcome back Emile Heskey after his England heroics. Top scorer David Healy is expected to start for the visitors despite a nagging calf complaint.

Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers - 5.15pm

Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard are Jose Mourinho's main injury casualties, but Chelsea are boosted by the return of Andriy Shevchenko. Blackburn are close to full fitness, with Roque Santa Cruz expected to partner Benni McCarthy up front.

SUNDAY

Manchester City v Aston Villa - 4pm

Andreas Isaksson is back at full fitness but faces a tough battle dislodging in-form Kasper Schmeichel from the City starting XI. Villa have Curtis Davies at full fitness, but could name the same team that beat Chelsea 2-0 a fortnight ago.

MONDAY

Derby County v Newcastle United - 8pm

Kenny Miller is set to start for Derby with Craig Fagan serving the first match of a four-game suspension, while Eddie Lewis and David Jones are in contention. Newcastle could give Habib Beye a debut at right-back with Stephen Carr still injured.

Chelsea Frustrated By Blackburn

CHELSEA 0-0 BLACKBURN ROVERS

Blackburn Rovers maintained their unbeaten record by fruustrating Chelsea in a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. The result leaves Arsenal clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Chelsea were frustrated by unbeaten Blackburn Rovers whose determined performance earned tham a point in a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.

Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel kept Chelsea at bay with a great save from Michael Essien and another crucial stop late on from Andriy Shevchenko.

However, Chelsea had a 57th-minute effort from Salomon Kalou ruled out for offside - decision that unfuriated the hosts.

Didier Drogba was ruled out by a knee injury, giving Shevchenko his chance. But Rovers lost defender Christopher Samba with a head injury.

Petr Cech produced a good save from Robbie Savage, but he was uypstaged by Friedel who saved brilliantly from Essien on 26 minutes when he leapt high to turn away Essien's goal-bound 25-yard drive, then saved at the feet of Shevchenko when the ex-Milan man had been put through by Essien.

Rovers nearly took the lead after 41 minutes when a David Bentley cross to Morten Gamst Pedersen at the far post was volleyed by the Norwegian into the side-netting.

David Dunn went close with a long-range effort, and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho sent on Mikel Jon Obi and Florent Malouda for Steve Sidwell and Shaun Wright-Phillips in an effort to change things.

Almost immediately Kalou turned in Juliano Belletti's cross, but the goal was controversially ruled out for offside.

Cech turned over a 20-yard effort from Savage before Shevchenko wasted a chance to put Chelsea ahead five minutes from time, heading Malouda's cross straight at Friedel from close range in the incident that saw Samba accidentally kicked in the head by Shevchenko.

Referee Howard Webb allowed eight minutes of injury time, but Blackburn held on to claim an important point.

Chelsea: Cech, Belletti, Alex, Terry, Ashley Cole (Ben-Haim 88), Wright-Phillips (Malouda 57), Sidwell (Obi 57), Essien, Joe Cole, Kalou, Shevchenko.
Subs Not Used: Cudicini, Ferreira.

Blackburn: Friedel, Emerton, Samba (Ooijer 90), Nelsen, Warnock, Bentley, Savage, Dunn (Mokoena 81), Pedersen, McCarthy (Roberts 68), Santa Cruz.
Subs Not Used: Brown, Derbyshire.

Did anyone see the penalty that was awarded to Portsmouth today? One of the most stupid decisions I have ever seen.

Edit: btw, guess why was C. Ronaldo booked today :howler:
