Premier League - Chelsea suffer Villa Knight-mare :D

Zat Knight enjoyed a dream debut for Aston Villa as he opened the scoring and then helped keep a clean sheet in a shock 2-0 win over Chelsea at Villa Park.

Knight's header from a Gareth Barry corner just after half-time gave Villa the lead, and the hosts then defended superbly for the remainder of the game.

Gabriel Agbonlahor then put the icing on the win as he deflected home an Ashley Young shot two minutes from time.

To compound a miserable day for Jose Mourinho's side Didier Drogba hobbled off injured in stoppage time.

With Frank Lampard missing injured and Andriy Shevchenko once more left out of the Chelsea squad, Mourinho decided to go back to the 4-3-3 system that served him so well in recent seasons, with Juliano Belletti and Alex both given their first starts.

The first 20 minutes of the match was played at breakneck speed with chances at both ends.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was causing Villa all sorts or problems and Martin O'Neill's side were also having great difficultly defending Chelsea corners but the best early chance went to Villa.

It came when Young fed a ball in for Agbonlahor, the England Under-21 international then turned sharply and Petr Cech had to be very alert to bat the resulting close range effort away.

Then a pattern quickly began to emerge, one where Chelsea dominated in terms of possession but struggled to create chances.

The situation was made all the graver for the Blues when they went behind with just two minutes played in the second-half, as Young curled in a shot that Cech tipped over.

From the resulting corner, Knight powered home a header for his boyhood heroes which found its way into the net despite Ashley Cole's best efforts to clear it off the line.

Chelsea brought on Claudio Pizarro, Joe Cole, and Salomon Kalou in a bid to change things and for most of the remainder of the match Chelsea were camped in the Villa half.

However, superb defending from the tall Villa backline ensured that Scott Carson didn't have much to do in regards to making saves.

Villa then hit Chelsea on the break for a final sucker punch two minutes from time, as Young embarked on a magnificent run down the left-wing, he then cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot that Agbonlahor instinctively deflected into the net.

Joe Cole hit the post for Chelsea in stoppage time but that effort, and the sight of Drogba being helped off just before the final whistle, summed up their miserable afternoon.

looks like this season might be the closest in recent years. still very early though.

arsenal played nicely and very well even with 10 men and could have scored even 2 more goals while being a player down.

Aston Villa beating Chelsea made my day...now all we have to do is win our postponed match..and we will be on top with Liverpool..today was the first convincing display by Arsenal..we patched things up by half time, instead of the last 10 minutes like we usually do..our midfielders are chipping in with goals, something we lacked last season..so the signs are good..what concerns me is the squad depth though..should we lose Rosicky or Hleb to injury we're doomed..as we dont have decent cover for them.

What's wrong with Chelsea? If Abramovic is not satisfied with Mourinho he shouldn't force him to change the way he plays he'd rather change him. Or would it cost him too much money to fire him?

Chelsea is putting some realy weak displays, I still need to see them playing good in this season, they are lacking something... Liverpool made greatest impression so far and they seem like a let me say favourites, but let's wait till CL begins and see will Benitez again put biggest effort in that competiton or he will try on both sides. However there is a long season ahead and it's to early to mage any predicitions.

i think man u and chelsea are just having bad starts , soon enough they will bounce back up and everything will turn back to normal .
It's very unreasonable to think Liverpool will win this season after only 5 games .

Manchester's improvements will help them more in the CL than in the league as for Chelsea I think not letting Mourinho manage the team the way he thinks it is best is something really bad and it would backfire.

I think Abramovich can have his own opinion , afterall he practically made the team . But imposing his opinion and not letting Mourinho do his own job is very insulting to mourinho as a coach .(I don't mind , i hate that cocky bastard)

Abramovic made the team but if it was not for Mourinho they wouldn't have won.

That's true but i think its unfair to base chelsea's success on mourinho . Afterall , abramovich did buy all the players and could have bought a different coach who might have been more successful .

Mourinho was just part of what Chelsea is , he definetely isn't the cause of it .

I agree with Juve Revolution,it is unreasonable to say Chelsea and Manutd wont win the league after just 5 rounds..sooner or later Arsenal is going slip up..Liverpool on the other hand look too strong.

Liverpool do look very good. Normally I wouldn't read anything into them winning 6-0, but because it was without Gerrard and Carragher, it was very impressive.

plus unlike chelsea and Arsenal they deserved to win their matches..and didnt need last minute goals to beat minor teams..but to be fair to my team..we should still have a clean sheet in the league if it werent for silly mistakes and flukes:D
